I am an ASM in Canadian Walmart. Does anyone know if the company can force me to be the overnight manager? Could I ask for severance instead?

The last round of layoffs...mid levels in Canada. If they offered you a position and you didn't take it, you were not given any form of severence. They offered one of our mud levels the frontend as an ASM. She said no and got nothing.
You won't win age discrimination. They've got lawyers out the rear to protect them.
That is what's happening though. They're getting rid of all the older workers because they view them as not as tech savvy and they cost more. They're doing it in waves though over time so that they don't get sued. Each wave gets reviewed to ensure they haven't fired a disproportionate number of people in a protected class.
But you spread this process out across a couple of years and you can still get rid of people in protected classes. And that's what I believe is going on. Just one persons opinion.
Thanks for your reply. I guess what I have going for me is 36 years of seniority; 30 of that in mgnt and always of the sales floor days. I ask the question as the store manager made mention that he could put me to overnights. I think if they tried I could make the case for "constructive dismissal" and possibly age discrimination.
they cant force you do to anything, however they CAN change your responsibilities. they cannot change your salary and pay you less if you're moved to a new role. they can give you a package if you refuse the new role, but you wont get more than 2 weeks pay for every year you've been there, provided you've been there for more than a year and you're full time. anything else and you get nothing. when you signed up for the role you were notified that you may be required to work various shifts in different temps and lift heavy things. they will win here, unfortunately.
