Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

with all the negative news how about a meeting with the new economic developer

The new economic developer in an interview stated that Sidney Nebraska would be fine no matter what happens at Cabela's. She also stated that the city the Sidney of was on the right side of the Cabela's issue. I work at Cabela's and I have so many concerns about the future and I also do not know what is the right side of the Cabela's issue. I think a meeting would be so welcome to ease the fear. We have almost a 800 housing project in Sidney which has yet to sale one home. How many millions did the town of Sidney Nebraska spend for the roads , the bride, the sewer the light. A meeting I think would be so welcome to inform the right position the city of Sidney is on in regard to the merger of Cabela's and also clear up the fear on how will Sidney get my with out Cabela's.

you need to give and your source when start stating there was never going to be over 300 houses. give you a name or your source instead of your insults with no facts.

Cabela's breaks new ground in Sidney -printed by Omaha World Herald from 11/27/2012. States that 800 houses were planned for new subdivision by hospital. Does the contractor have grounds to sue since they were lied to?

There were never going to be 800 homes built by any developer...I was confused because your number is so ridiculously inflated. Several developers visited Sidney, but they were not comfortable with the economic stability of Cabela's and the reliance of the community on a single primary employer. One developer agreed to take a chance and unfortunately, he was flat out lied to by the executive management team of Cabela's. Rumors were floating around at one time that there were going to be 300 homes built in the area where the four new properties exist, which is again, ridiculous, as there is not room in that platted area for more than 50 homes of the size the developer has proposed.

I have prepared taxes before and if you get 30 thousand in severance. I would say most employees at Cabela's is looking at a top rate of 28 percent the top maximum rate is 39.6 percent. I think most employees at Cabela's would be satisfied with a 30 thousand dollar severance package. Severance pay is taxed at the same rate as regular income. In this situation I would estimate you would have your housing cost paid for a year and three months. This is a lot better situation then you get out the door we are not giving you anything because bass pro may hire you.

I agree six months is not the total answer. however six months would help and it would show the company has some feeling for ex employees. Believe me it would be a lot better then the directors getting three years or more and the other 19 thousand employees getting ( bass pro is hiring and therefore we do not have to give you nothing for a severance package ).

I totally disagree . I have read the post and it sounds like to me most the poster on this site think the six director if they get their huge 3 year severance package this is all they want and the rest of the employees at Cabela's and the town of Sidney Nebraska can basically go to hell. I do not agree I think a severance pay will be paid in accordance to what has been the practice at Cabela's and what is standard.

"he felt in the final merger agreement their would have terms which would be extremely beneficial to the employees at Cabela's and the city of Sidney"

How could he know? The executive team cannot legally comment on this. I'm sure by the time the details come out the executive team will all have moved out of town under the cover of darkness.

And what would be beneficial: No layoffs? Buy up all the houses on the market. Please keep in mind a LOT of people in this town have their life savings tied up in a house they cannot sell in the foreseeable future. The only way out is foreclosure which destroys your financial future for at least seven years.

This isn't about fair or doing the right thing, this deal is simply about eliminating a competitor and ensuring profitability long term by doing so. Cabelas is gone, period. They are not going to keep duplicate staff in Sidney just because, no way. As we have seen and those of us in the business know, there is not room for "doing the right thing". There will be huge layoffs in Sidney with offers to move to Missouri to continue. That's it, period. Time to move on. Johnny Morris not a nice guy. He will do what is best and if he doesn't, the whole deal will fail.

I really think the posters on this site should proofread before hitting the submit button. If all of you truly live in Sidney, destroying the English language doesn't highlight your education system. Many of the posts are VERY hard to read.

I had a discussion with a local banker earlier today on the Cabela's issue. Even thru he agreed the city government of Sidney publicly has ignored the Cabela's issue for almost a year and half. The banker thought behind closed doors the city manager and economic developer spend probably close to half their day on the phone with figures like the ceo at Cabela's the governor the senator etc working for the interest of Sidney Nebraska in the final agreement between bass pro and Cabela's since it is such an important issue in the history of Sidney. The banker felt very good about the further due to the statements so far from the city of Sidney officials what life after Cabela's would be just fine. I do not agree however he felt in the final merger agreement their would have terms which would be extremely beneficial to the employees at Cabela's and the city of Sidney . What does everyone else think .

Being the new economic developer for Sidney is like being the new director of shuffleboard on the Titanic

given the fact property valuation may decline tremendously along with sales revenue. I think massive SPENDING DECREASE SHOULD ALSO OCCUR AT CITY HALL NOW.

I know there is a storm on the horizon with Cabela's. however in regard to the issues which have been discussed? I think the city caught the stray cat at the park. I walked around the soccer fields and I didn't see any doggy messes, I know we kept the adult video out of town. we do not have any truck parked on the streets. I saw the code inspector out in full force today. I mean really is a 5500 million dollars company or a company which employee 2000 employees really to important in comparison to these issues.

The new housing development of 800 homes was part of the package when they built the new hospital. You must be new to Sidney.

If you are a agent. I find it very hard to believe you didn't know about the project to build almost 800 houses the street the bridge the roads has all been finished. http://www.kearneyhub.com/news/state/cabela-s-breaks-new-ground-in-sidney/article_c4b07104-38c6-11e2-af1e-0019bb2963f4.html. There has been four homes built in the project and zero homes sold in the project

Please clarify your 800 housing project comment. Are you saying someone has laid out a subdivision for 800 homes? Because as a real estate agent, that's news to me. The agents in Sidney were all told 18 months ago there was no new construction taking place due to the uncertain future of Cabela's.

Commenters on this site know that the local media look at this site and city council. Maybe they are afraid of the comments/questions they will receive at meeting. Whatever happens with merger this town is damaged and it will take along for people to trust Cabela's management. Did anyone approach the council about having a meeting?
