What's the alternative if you don't go to work for Hilcorp? shouldn't get mad at Hilcorp for COPs bad decisions. You all are mouthing off about Hilcorp when you know nothing about them.

I work for Hilcorp and it has been a good change for me. If you have a chance to jump onboard take it.

By the timing of your post, a regular Joe that's awake at 2-3am, scouring message boards, trying to defend anything and everything said even a little negative (and maybe true?) about the company?

I'm telling you man, go read about scientology. It might help save you. They have groups of people and lawyers on standby just to shoot back at and take down anyone that tries to discredit their "church."

Some of you guys are idiots. I've just tried to explain a few things about Hilcorp and you can't get over your own cynicism and snarky attitude. I understand that's what working for a 'Major' can do to you. I'm not part of they koolaid tour group I'm just a regular Joe that believes in it. Some of us who aren't involved in the transition have been watching the circus on these discussion boards. If you don't want to give it a chance, carry that same attitude into your interview. There are always lots of great employees with acquisitions, I can understand skepticism but not the pure pessimism. Good luck.

I don't think it's the COO, but I could see it being one of the four other kool aid salesman. Maybe it's one of the newer FNGs that haven't been with them that long that are talking him up like he's tom cruise and Hilcrap is like scientology.

Oh wait a minute that all makes sense now. They talk about the big time leader of that company like he's the know it all, end all, smartest person that ever lived, and how thankful everyone should be that he started Hildo. How you can try to be like them but you just can't until you are "aligned". Those straight jackets talked about alignment and how essential it is throughout the entire presentation. Sound like a religious cult much? Be like us, think like us, or else things just won't work out for you. Which is exactly like they do it in scientology and that nutbar L Ronnie Hubbard.

That just cleared up a lot for me. I'm telling you, if you don't know about the cult that is scientology, look it up. Then think about the presentation you heard this week. Tell me they're not eerily similar.

What are the odds that the poster named "Northbound 275" on this is actually is the COO? That'd be about fitting.

Like rave reviews about a product that are posted by the seller of said product.

Our COO is the smartest guy in the room not in the Enron sense at all. He is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the business. Geology, reservoir, operations, business, etc. his memory is so good he keeps everyone on their toes. He may know more about your well than you do.

You are correct Hilcorp does not do all of the overboard controls that COP does. We are much more efficient and practical than that. We empower employees to make decisions.

Hilcorp is all about the money. That's what business is for. In that sense we are pure capitalist. Our compensation may be a bit socialist, but COP is much more socialistic in their benefits program. Work-life balance is not the same. We don't have two or three people for every one job. You are expected to come to work and work hard every day. But Hilcorp does care about its employees as shown by some of our unique benefits. Buy-in, charitable giving, chaplains, long term bonuses. We recently switched to paid time off program. This was a huge shift for Hilcorp in terms of worklife balance.

"When Hilcorp wins we all win ."

Hilcorp's COO came off as greedy and arrogant. He was also entertaining, and their business model make a lot of sense. Hopefully COO is not the "smartest guy in the room" along the lines of the book with that same title about the hubris, greed and fraud of Enron's executives.

Hilcorp obviously has a successful business model, whereas COP selling assets at the nadir of value to service debt is proof positive that our ELT cannot run an oil company very well. San Juan in particular was run into the ground by successive bad managers (not leaders) who were rewarded with plum promotions off the doomed ship. MOC's to change a plunger, integrated planning, $30K of SCADA on a well making 30 Mscfd, tracking small project capital to 2%, work orders to fix simple stuff, hard bidding a well head compressor downsize, 72 maintenance KPIs: unadulterated stupidity. Hilcorp almost certainly has better managers than COP, but so do most Starbucks, Taco Bell and Jiffy Lube franchises. I wish Hilcorp the best of success; they cannot screw San Juan much worse than it already is.

My first impression from their townhall presentation was that Hilcorp is ALL about the money with very little work/life balance. Money is most definitely important, but it is not the only thing that makes a job "good". Are the people at Hilcorp happy because they hire and create a culture of...collective avarice...or it really a good company to work for on levels other than $$$?

Nice to hear from a hilcorp employee. I'm hoping they'll hire me. If not there are other places to work. The Hilcorp model looks and sounds great. Excellent opportunity.

Our COO is a bit quirky with his presentations, anyone at Hilcorp would tell you that. They would also tell you that he is the smartest person in the room or in any room they've ever been in for that matter. From top to bottom Leaders here don't look like Executives or Managers at COP. And from what I read on here everyone should consider that a great thing. It is a great thing. For the most part our leadership is truly that and inspire people to work. Hilcorp is a "Great Place to Work."

We may pay a slightly lower hourly rate but we also have averaged 35%+ bonus yearly, plus our big bonuses. That's the same for everyone COO and pumpers, that's where the Socialism comes in. Also our Buy-In program is an exceptional benefit. Getting to invest in the company and have undiluted ownership interest in the company is awesome. Someday soon San Juan employees will get to invest in their own asset where they work and can make a difference. This incentivizes you to work like an owner.

Lastly, I can sympathize with the stress your asset sale has put on you all. I've been through it myself. I know it is hard not knowing if you're going to have a job. I pray that you can all find peace (and a job you love) through this process. I consider getting hired by Hilcorp to be the best thing that ever happened to me professionally.

I'm in the asset and I thought the presentation was fine, but the ability of their COO to execute the message was abysmal. I'd rather "put a bullet in my head" than work for a company who doesn't have the ability to articulate a fairly simple message. Referring to their company as communistic and socialistic was interesting to say the least. But go ahead, drink the "kool-aid" as he so eloquently put it". Hop right on that train straight to Jonestown...

Any negative feedback about Hilcorp on this site is just pure jealousy. AND it is probably coming from one or more, as there are many, of the "miserables" in the main complex. Hilcorp is a great company. I would be so happy to get to move on from COP. I hate this place
