Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

annual reviews /raises

Many close exec peers who had exemplary reviews-high meets expectations (the best is exceeds expectations) only got 1.8% raises this year. Yes, we should be grateful we have a job.... But it use to be 3% for average meets expectations. It's disheartening to know our former ceo received a 4.7% raise and new ceo receiving a 5.5% raise. How did they come up with that math? First, we are all due more money, but it's only going to top CEOs who are driving our company into the ground.... MOST IMPORTANTLY, I would rather see my peers who are losing their jobs KEEP THEIR JOBS if it meant we all forgo the usually 3% avg. meets expectation raise, and have it slashed to a 1.8%. Now you are receiving a almost perfect review and you aren't being compensated % compared to top execs in the company. But no one in hr will address why raises are being cut, people being laid off, when the higher ups aren't being cut either. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2017/04/13/macys-execs-get-raises-despite-poor-sales-year.html

As much as I appreciate your passion and heart regarding low merits/raises being allocated in other ways such as keeping more employees/less layoffs- I have to say something I haven't sent anywhere on this forum yet which is that, I am so grateful I was layed off, given a severance package in February etc. It took less than 2-3 months to secure a great job making more money and every company I was interviewing with was overly understanding and almost empathetic for what is going on with Macy's. Leaving MST was the best decision I didn't make but deep down knew it was time. I truly miss my coworkers immensely and that's all. Don't run, just know losing a Macys job, is expected/likely/or beneficial to your career in the short term and long term. Stay positive!

We just received our reviews last week and it was a joke; a lousy 15 cents. How is it the these top executive people get a huge increase when supposedly the sales were not good. the store does not staff the floor and they are just running the store on gas fumes. this is one of the top stores and the way it is being managed they are driving it to the ground. It's actually pretty sad. Management sees this, but the less money spent on staffing the better their bonuses.

Agree with you 1000%. Company leadership has made it sadly clear that the store level staff (associates through execs) don't matter. Leadership is walking away with their multi-million dollar pay for destroying the company brick by brick and could care less about the people who actually do the work!
