The programs at Ai that have a diploma component will be the survivors...not all of them mind you...the culinary and B and P diplomas should flourish and I see them becoming the central focus along with the Graphic Design diploma...other than that I do not hold hope. I cannot fathom the Fashion Diploma surviving. MAA and Audio Production will vanish...
I agree it seems like a mismatch which makes sense why the articles I read state the biggest change will be to Ai and changes to the program will be a "technology" focus. I can see where the other EDMC brands would fit in- just don't see the same for Ai. Guess I better get cranking on my resume. The design field is so saturated and competitive, as it is, just don't see how this new demographic will fit in to the field.
It's a very good question.
DCF's primary goal will likely be working with hs dropouts and others that need to find solid decent paying trade jobs as that seems to be fitting into their current outreach and mission.
However... in the department at Ai that I teach, people are typically not being hired as employees within that industry. It's heavily an independent contractor/you own your own business area. That's an issue industry wide - regardless of what school you go to- that major typically has few employee W-2 paying positions. It's something I stress heavily for students I teach. I don't care what admissions said when you applied but this is how the industry is; you need to start preparing now.
This seems like a natural mismatch between the realities of the arts industries and the mission of DCF.
