Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Hiring What ?

Someplace in one of these posts there was one that talked about NetApp hiring. So I took a look at the job postings. Worldwide NetApp has 307 jobs posted. Of that 144 are at a large corp center (Sunnyvale NB Nane RTP or PTC). Of those I count just over 30 as actual software engineering development, maybe 35 if I count QA, that are not new grad or intern. My math could be off a little, but I am close. Oh, and I did not include the 3 new mgr positions either.

So while the company is hiring, I don't see a lot of reqs for doing the work the company needs to do to actually grow long term. Sorry, but I don't put my investment money I to that structure.

This is the new normal. NetApp being a stand alone storage vendor is going to continue to see decline. Because of their size and bank account this will be a slow decline. They have cut past the fat and are now into the bone. Yes there are still poor performers but there are poor performers that survive in every company. You will never clear them all out. At the end of the day storage is a commodity product. People want it cheaper than they did last year. Being a stand alone storage company will never be a huge money maker like it was 7 years ago. Customers aren't looking for whiz bang storage solutions. They want simpler cost effective easily manageable IT solutions. That means cloud service like AWS and Azure and full solution providers like HP and Dell/EMC will continue to gain market. Cisco is in a similar situation if they don't figure themselves out. As it relates to working at NetApp. They are a commercial company. They owe you nothing. You owe them nothing. It is not the 1950s. If you think a company gives a crap about you then you are delusional. They will continue to have layoffs on a yearly basis to boost the stock. Either accept the cycle or move on if you can.

The one's I know there won't say it's horrible, but it's clearly not the place it was 10 years ago. Massive cuts, loss of great people and no guidance is driving down moral. The reason they stay? Pay and benefits are still good for the market, and looking for a new job is a pain-in-the-a--.

Good for you. "Everyone who you talked to still works at Netapp and says it is still a horrible place" why would people knowing work in a horrible place. Maybe they might have told you that so that you wont apply...Now move on. go find a place of your liking and work there. why waste your time on this board?

Every time a see that NetApp is hiring I have to laugh. No way in hell would I ever subject myself to that company again. I'm sure some of the kool aid drinkers will say I'm a hater, and they are correct. Everyone I've talked to that is still there says it is still a horrible place to work and that is where the truth lies.
