Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

What happens to a company where the ultimate goal/achievement of all the employees is to become a manager?

  • You never find oil

  • You are bottom quartile exploration

  • You never know how to drill wells

  • You dont know how to develop fields

  • You dont know how to do proper financial reviews

  • Your stock price performs miserably

  • Your upper management lies to Wall Street and believes their own lies

  • Your technical staff is thrown under the bus

  • You become ConocoPhillips

The employees are forced to fight to the death. Despite their own integrity they get brainwashed into wanting that rating and wanting the fame that comes along with being a "manager," so much so that they willingly steal and climb over their co-workers on their way to the top. Once at the top they see the big picture and realize they've just scaled a giant pile of manure.

promotion, grade raise, and high ratings with more dollars if you want to be a manager (whether you're actually any good or not).

If you're technical you aren't on any kind of career ladder, your only there to make your manager look good so they can get the bonuses
