I have been reading some of the posts and I am one of the employees that "didn't fit". Being with the company for only a few years and being in my upper 50's, it would be very tough to prove age discrimination. After reading the agreement several times, I have noticed the non competition clause, which means I can't work for other retailers for a year. So Lowe's wants to give my $8000 (before taxes) but wants to limit my options of who I can work for. b---s---! Be very careful and understand it BEFORE you sign that piece of paper.

Basically it says you cannot work for any company within a 25 mile radius that sells any products or services that Lowes carries, Lowes sells Coke Pepsi and Candy so its anyone
I am taking the severance and hope that Lowes takes me to court because it is to restrictive and the Courts will throw it out,
Also found out that until they open your envelope they have not officially received it, so if they decide to not open them for a month or 2 we are screwed. once they do open them they have to be processed and that can take 3 weeks (14 Business Days)
It would be interesting to see how many asm over 40 were let go.
Well I sign my off, I just can't wait because I have a family to take care of, I wish you all good luck!!!
I am going to get someone to look it over, I honesty would have just liked to know on what grounds other then I have been with the company to close to 20 years with not a single PIP or documentation and perfect attendance, not to mention meeting or exceeding on every performance review...its hard not to take it personal.
Honestly, though - do you think Lowe's legal teams are going to be chasing down 2500 former ASMs to make sure they didn't get jobs with Home Depot? The wording is an a--hole move, but if I were in that position, I'd just take whatever job worked best for me and screw the clause.
I read it too. Signing it could cost me ten of thousands in future earnings.
I have read the agreement too. It's full of you can't do this and you can't do that. Funny how keeping good employees around is very low on their prioritiy list but they get the agreement in overnight mail. Something to think about.
