Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Am I reading this correctly?

I've seen post of managers who opt to stay having to take a 4 question survey then HR feeds it into a computer and the computer "program" is deciding who will be keeping their job?computer programs are written by a man or woman.is it random?from the posts I've read on here it seems to be targeting employees who have been with lowes a long time and are making great money.perhaps this is how the program was written....is lowes trying to avoid an age discrimination lawsuit by blaming a computer for its choices.if anything the program needs to be exposed, data compiled of all let go by their age and earnings.lowes needs to explain this "program" and then you may find your lawsuit.

At the bottom of the survey it asks how long have you worked at Lowes...and How Much your income is.

Bang...You're gone.

Smiles and Giggles.

3 part timers come out of the cloning station to replace you from Some other country...That are subsidized by the United States Government.

Reading these posts it looks like it wasn't directing towards an age group because someone has said it was the older longer tenure and others saying younger. My stores ASM that was cut was the youngest and shortest tenure so looks as though it is not age discrimination at all to be fair. I do not agree with this new structure of management, especially since there is so much less possibility of climbing the corporate ladder.

Lowes was in my Career possibility but after seeing this and hearing Specialists will be next, it is no longer in my Interest to stick with Lowes for my ongoing future.

Of the two lowes I keep in contact with one ASM was let go from each ironically they both had been there the longest.one of them since the store opened the other 12 years the other ASM's all combined less than a year being there!!! Combined.something if fishy.looks like they were aiming for long term well paid people to cut.this system they're using to determine who goes shows a major pattern.

Wouldn't any position available for hire have to be open to the public?

I can tell you whats really troubling. We were told that the SM and his ASMs, which he had a decision in...not a program would be determining which DMs that opt in would be getting the "service Manager" position. The problem is that the selection criteria was not communicated. If its just a 4 question program then I can tell you from experience... That if the selection criteria isn't communicated then you have the basis for the lawsuit

This is not just age and tenure. It is also about salary. Transfering(..applying ) for my position was successful. However, I have been told for two years was that I made more than the "local" ceiling. So I do know that the next steps in the following years is to follow the HD model which the Chicago area experimented with..Remember, Lowes cut out the commission for all but two employees, PSI and PSE. I can't tell you how disappointing it was to hear the corporate line that "this would be a better structure to help the employee manage their finances....NOT! The big box stores have benefited in this recovery economy and you are seeing the resulting greed.

Programs can be written any way.questions that were entered can be just a "front" for what seems to be a fair process.the program could've been written to recognize an employee ID when his/her ID is entered with their answers, then the computer searches for what one makes, time with company.after all I'm sure this all began with a number.a number brought up at a board meeting that had to be met.maybe the program was written to help them reach their number of dollars cut.not the people.

Age and tenure is exactly the factor. Our best ASM, who literally ran our store was let go. He truly bled Lowes blue. He was loved by all of us and worked harder than those of us half his age. A performance survey given at a meeting, completed by the SM and HR, entered in a computer which told them who would stay and who would go. When the ASM questioned what questions were on the survey, the SM said they are not allowed to say. This is age discrimination plain and simple.
