@DSWAP When the HO associates live in constant fear of being RIF'd, how are we supposed to focus on the job? There are a couple of RIFs every year. The last 2-3 years at least have been a living hell at the HO. Not knowing from one RIF to another if you'll have a job. It no longer matters if you work 80 hours a week. (A bargain to WM.) It no longer matters if you are a high performer. It no longer matters if you have 20 years with the company. It no longer matters if you are a top level VP. We have all become expendable.
The corporate world no longer looks at their associates as assets. We are now considered liabilities. We are expenses to the bottom line. And WM doesn't care. All they care about is the profit and keeping the major shareholders happy. What would Mr. Sam say about the changes that have occurred since his passing? I never met the man but I know people that have. They all say he would be rolling in his grave.
WM no longer cares about the individual, the associate. They are no longer loyal to us. Why should we be loyal back? WM is a taker. An employer/employee relationship should be one of give and take. A symbiotic relationship beneficial to both parties. But maybe you're right. Maybe we should control the things we can. Be making sure our resumes are up to date. By applying to jobs we are interested in to practice our interviewing skills. By working 45 hours instead of 60. By not checking e-mails 24/7. By putting our personal lives and families first.
WM wants us to bleed WM blue. They want us to believe they are special in the business world. You know what? They aren't. They may have been at one time. But no longer. I speak for myself. To me this is just another job. And I know with my skills I can easily get another. Where the stress is lessened. Where I can work a 40 hour work week. Where I can trust management. Where I can actual enjoy my job. Where I can actually have fun at my job again.
