Quit Houston in q4, 2016. They paid my accrued and unused leave.
Sidenote: Still wouldn't recommend anyone join this dysfunctional company.
It's not necessary to give notice if you plan to quit. Ask yourself if the company would give you notice of two weeks before terminating you. Obviously not. Two weeks notice is a courtesy only, not mandatory.
Take some mental days at work and sick time too
take a couple weeks off, try the new company, and shove the letters with 0 days notice to HR>Manager>N+2

Depends on several factors. If you are a US employee, you will be paid for any days you have accrued, BUT not taken. Say you get 24 days per year vacation as an example. The full balance was placed into your account on Jan 1. You currently have only accrued 1.5 months. You would be paid out for those 3 days if you have not taken any vacation yet this year. If you've taken vacation days, then it is kind of a bonus to you and you do not need to 'give' them back. My understanding though is this applies only to employees that are terminated by the company. If you quit in the USA they don't owe you anything.
Safest thing would be to try and get the information directly from someone else who quit. If you ask HR they will likely give notice to your direct manager.
