Thread regarding Toys "R" Us layoffs

Time to get off this ship

This was a good company once, but nowadays I can't think any good reason to stay here. I hate to say it, but this company has some serious issues, and I don't think things will improve soon. These series of layoffs are killing everyone's morale. Even if you dodge this bullet, another one is coming soon, that's for sure. Time to get off this ship.

If Toy R Us is unable to emerge from bankruptcy by Sept 2018, it will most likely cease to exist. Vendors will not be willing to get burned again, as they did in 2017.

17 weeks for 17 years? Those were the good old days... I got 3 weeks for 6 years. And I'm still waiting on it.

I was part of the first layoff in 2003. 500 people . I was just promoted to DS of Juvenile. 17 years with the company.I had no idea it was happening DM and SM called me in the office. I did get 17 weeks package.A week later both the DM and SM left the company. It was the best thing for me. One door closes another opens. Best of luck for all that are affected.

I was ahead of this pack when I was let go December 3, 2013 after 20 years of heart and soul service and several promotions. I always had fantastic reviews and modest pay increases and at one point, I was privately presented a bonus check by my director and VP for my service. When the time came, the company made it appear that I had performance issues so that they could remove me with a fraction of the compensation that I was entitled to and was forced to sign an agreement that I would not sue the company for this depature. After years of working with the same people and considering everyone family, it all quickly changed on that day. How these people can face themselves each day is beyond me! My heart goes out to all of the loyal and evoted people that were let go this week because of corporate greed.

Read the tea leaves, going out of business as they let the best of the best go - all experienced hard working dedicated professionals who poured their hearts and souls into TRU. Some we're with TRU for almost 40 years.

They we're let go because they made to much, which is code for let's go with less experienced personnel (The JV team, and we will save money) The sad reality is this move more so than any prior lays offs spells the beginning of the end.

If TRU wanted to save money, all they had to do was institute a company wide 10% pay cut across the board - equally shared among all corporate including the top brass. This not only sent out a message of desperation for Senior management to keep in place their over inflated pay, it will also start an exodus of all those who are left. The message is clear, you are not valued.

Thank you for your 40 years, pack up your bags and leave. The problem is not with the hard working team that makes up TRU but with senior leadership, I mean right bring in a guy who was hated and reviled at his prior jobs and had ZERO retail merchandising experience.

The folks at KKR, Bain Capitial and Vornado can't see that they made an error in hiring the wrong CEO and this latest action is one of desperation. If these private equity firms want to turn things around at TRU they should hire one or two from the pool of talent let go this past week.

The culture at TRU is no dissent allowed, follow the leader and do what we say. The soldiers on the ground often times know more than the generals.

Yes there have been layoffs in the past, however, this marks the beginning of the end. Remember the Proletariat - heck where is Donald when you need him.

Good luck and good night. Me personally I am moving and getting out of retail for good - heck construction looks good with housing making a comeback ?

Brandon and Grace talk culture and team! When will they walk the talk! Four years in a row! Consultants creaming money! Private jets, massive executive bonuses in 2015 and now what? The people who put in everyday heart and soul get shafted! It's the fat cats Ayvali the top who need to go

This company has been a sinking ship for years. The store model is dead. Anytime you have Warren Buffet sell his stock in Walmart, it's time to stop working for a retailer. The layoff affected me as well. No warning, just picking and choosing who they like or don't like. It will happen to anybody and everybody at some point. It doesn't matter if you have been there for months or years, they will eventually get you.

Such a bad place to work. Three CEOs in the last 4 years. They sell nothing but overpriced junk from China in dirty disorganized stores. Amazon and Walmart kicking their a--.

Nothing will change under Dave Brandon's leadership. Word to the wise: RUN don't walk. It's a sinking ship.

They will call you from your bed. Confirmed from one employee who was out sick. Class!

In typical TRU fashion, the layoffs drag on for three excruciating days. Why would anyone bother to get out of bed this morning?
