Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Cabela's employees -- what are your plans?

If you're a current Sidney Cabela's employee:

1) What are your current plans? (Employment/Living)

2) Are you expecting the headquarters to leave Sidney?

3) Are you currently looking for other employment opportunities? If so, are you looking in Sidney or outside of Sidney?

4) Would you prefer to stay in Sidney, even if Cabela's were to leave?

5) Do you expect other businesses to leave Sidney with the uncertainty of Cabela's future?

  1. Currently working for Cabela’s, but applied to other jobs that I find similar to my position. Plans are to

keep on working until A) I get laid off and/or B) Get hired elsewhere.

  1. Neutral on this one. I can see BPS relocate people to Sidney to fulfill positions and use the current corporate building as a corporate extension of some sort. On the other hand, I can see those left over working in corporate relocate to Springfield and leave the buildings vacant for something else.

  2. YES. And definitely outside of Sidney.

  3. Even if Cabela’s were to leave, I would prefer to stay in Sidney. However, that won’t be an option considering how very limited my position is to be found in this town. I remain to keep my profession anonymous. If BPS offered relocation to me with the same rate of pay and position I would leave here in a heartbeat.

  4. Yes. Unless you own a restaurant or a place that serves food, Mom and pop shops and family owned businesses will hurt the most.

  5. Not sure one this one. Probably irrelevant, but I will leave this out there..those that want to sell their homes should reconsider renting out to others at this point.

You don't expect businesses to leave? If Cabela's corporate closes up the town turns to dust! Think Dalton.

I am a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln researching small communities with heavy reliance on one industry/corporation, such as Sidney. I'm interested in how the Cabela's-BPS merger well affect Sidney and its residents.

Identify yourself...you can't ask survey questions like that anonymously! Sounds like a member of the City Council or chamber of commerce. If so, the survey is justified, but you need to identify yourself and make it official.
