Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Buyout scenario

This is my third corporate buyout of a company I have been employed at. The pattern in the other two was first notify employees all is well and nothing is going to change. 2nd, is to notify employees that there will be restructuring to increase sale or increase efficiency but do not be concerned your employment or department is still needed. 3rd, is to have HR appear and have sweeping layoffs and thank you and extend hope in all your future endeavours.

I think we are at the 2nd stage.

Those of us laid off have in writing severance amount and in writing agreement not to interfere with unemployment. In Arizona thirty days not required. Stage three indeed

no, it's not stage 2 yet, not even 1. Your bosses won't know what's coming, neither will their bosses, the only ones that will know what's happening are the new owners and it's all about numbers and profits. Doesn't matter how good you have been at your job- what have you done for them today- is the question.

Trump's deregs are in process, employers will have even more power- good luck trying to sue for severance if you don't get it- probably no lawyer will take it on contingency.

Not sure what state laws are in play here. The WARN Act is federal legislation that mandates notice be given in certain instances (shutting down an entire facility, laying off 500 or more across the company). Google it and read for yourself.....I may not be pinpoint accurate here. In terms of severance, I am.not aware of any regulatory requirements that mandate the payment of severance, even when a precedent exists.

Arizona is an at-will employment state. I believe they are not required to notify 30 days before.

Seems like stage 2 was last month. This feels more like stage 3. But I hope you are right.

Those who are waiting for severance good luck. The state is required to give at least 30 days notice of layoff, unless of course, this is the 30-day announcement.
