Cook: Qualcomm was insisting on charging royalties for technologies that they had nothing to do with,” he said, claiming that as Apple innovated with new features like its TouchID fingerprint sensors or advanced displays and cameras, Qualcomm would collect money “for no reason.”

Who cares? Remember Ericsson's lawsuit, settled by selling a huge number of QC employees to E///?
Jacob's will sell QCT to Mav and it will all be good.
Imagine if Qualcomm started charging for the same wireless chip in a car based on a percentage of total sales price. Huuuuuge profits on a Ferrari but the same as an IPhone for a Hyundai. Or better yet, how about if they put chips on the international space station or on a military plane? Does NXP have automotive chips with essential patents? Maybe that is the reason for the acquisition.
@LD1572a-1ngq they already bought intel chips, right?
This is coming once law suit is done, they will say good bye QC so my suggestion is to get a job somewhere else
I doubt QC held a gun mav and said pay us more. Mav knew the terms and agreed to them, if they didn't like it, go buy intel.
Analogy for Chinese customers:
-
Cheap phone $250 dlls, using same modem $30 (lower grade modem, Lower yield, many bugs) & license fees: 10 dlls per phone.
-
IPhone $600 dlls, using same modem as Chinese Phone $45 (screened for bugs, high yield, minimum bugs) & license fees: 30 dlls per phone.
Sound fishy but is true....
Imagine you go to buy tires.
You: how much for the set?
Saleseman: $400
Y: great, ring me up.
S: oh wait you have leather seats and a moonroof. It's $600 for you.
Y: what? Why?
S: yeah, the tires are going to be used on a better equiped, more luxurious car.
Y: WTF!
cook is correct. does your windows os charge higher if its installed in a more expensive machine?
The royalty is for 3G technology which is licensed and owned by Qualcomm. As long as it is in the chipset and Apple is using it, then Apple needs to pay for it.
@LD1572a-dtp, does Coors get a higher royalty on Petco beers? What if Petco was more than a quarter full?
Cooks analogy crap
why is beer $10 at petco park but $3.99 at vons?
