Oh, it's happening. Cisco is purchasing NetApp. This is a fact. I wish I could post a bet and or tell you more.

Accounting nailed it. "Transformation" is a nickname
Any impact? https://finance.yahoo.com/m/5c88bb23-9fcb-3f7f-bbe5-b5c92834cd58/cisco-to-terminate-$1b-public.html
New era or one trick pony? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/13/old_storage_guard_flash/
@Nonsense: If you had a dollar for the countless times this has been rumored, then you'd be an infinity-aire, or at least wealthy beyond measure.
Other than that, a correct and well thought analysis. Cisco is not going to buy NetApp, highly unlikely that anyone else will either.
My turn for speculation - Kurian, Nevens and the Board tried to shop NetApp in the second half of CY2015 and got a resounding "No thanks" from the usual players. I don't see that anything fundamental has really changed since then - and don't tell me Solidfire or cDOT 9! At the end of the day, NetApp is making buggy whips for the automobile era. Laser-powered buggy whips are not the answer. Until and unless NetApp finds an answer for the new era, they will continue their decline. (Source: my great-grandfather, "Cars are just a fad!")
If I had a dollar for the countless times this was said, i'd be a millionaire!
Cisco will not be buying NetApp because
a) Cisco management is too ignorant and self-centered when it comes to storage
b) Cisco does not have a history of doing large acquisitions
c) why get married when you can date everybody...
If someone were to acquire NetApp it could potentially be Fujitsu or even Oracle. Especially for Fujitsu NetApp would make a lot of sense but I don't see how this would happen when netapp has a a $10bln market cap and 4-5bln cash. That would be an extremely expensive acquisition for a company in decline!
It's been a rumor since many years back.. It would make sense for Netapp, but does it make sense for Cisco ? Well, I don't see that Cisco sense today with Whiptail in fresh mind...
The next excuse to put more people out on the street. Bail while you still can
This has been a rumor since the Dell/EMC acquisition. Nothing new here.
