I know that people are concerned - don’t be - but I heard from someone pretty high up in our corporate office that they planned layoffs but that plan was abandoned, so we are safe here in Abbott Park.

NEVER believe you ARE safe and secure these days. Management can and will fire you without a care in the world. Oh they want 2 weeks notice from you as a courtesy of course ---- but on their side, no such agreement exists. Always have an eye cast around.
Yes Abbott had layoffs Nov. 17,2017 At the St Jude manufacturing facility in Scottdale Az. All of 3rd shift.

Layoffs are happening - my office lost a few last week and mostly decisions made in Chicago far removed from mid-level managers. I would also suspect St. Jude IT staffers should worry given that WiPro is taking total control of everything. Abbott IT has been fairly well decimated so that hardly any quality people are left. So the St. Jude staff will be abbottized into the WiPro community, which means fired.
Abbott has lay off its HBU staffs.
