Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

Question- what to do when you have nothing to do?

Like, my workload has almost been completely cut to zero for a couple weeks now, and i literally could work one day a week until the end of the year to keep up. What should i do to not go crazy with boredom?

My workload has doubled and I like it that way. Last time I didn't have any work to do at a similar company, was when I got laid off after 18 years there. I encourage you to find work to do.

Spending vacation on the layoff is pretty pathetic. You noble people really are losers

Dear Layoff checker:

Posting 4 days ago puts me on a Saturday. Your post 19 hours ago puts YOU within the work day. As I was saying....Point made.

Dear Worker Bee, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge people for their workload when you're also here on the layoff.com in the middle of the workday.

What is wrong with you guys. Have some pride. Find SOMETHING ANYTHING to do. You are so quick to put down management. Maybe you should look in the mirror!

I play Candy Crush for a while after I check personal email... and then try to inconspicuously time my trip to the coffee pot with the hot chick from engineering so I can cast my male gaze upon her until she gets uncomfortable and heads back to her office. Then I check my phone for the "Top 10 careers that pay over 100 grand with no degree" (I should have been an air traffic controller). I usually feel the pressure of a nice "movement" around 10 am and head to the bathroom for a half hour or so. Then, I plan a "meeting" in the field that will take a couple hours round trip and pass buy my favorite burrito joint. Then I head back to the office to shoot the bull with the guys in my department and when they get antsy to get some work done. Then, I move on to other departments to find others to shoot the bull with until it gets close enough to quitting time that I can call it a day. Rinse, Repeat.

You could do like my coworker does every day: spend 3 hours socializing, 2 hours running her home business from her cell phone, 2 hours talking sh-- about other people, 1 hour at the office gym, and 1.5 hours at lunch. That about covers Monday through Thursday. Then on the half day she works on Fridays she'll make some copies and do a little work before calling it a day. It's tough to squeeze 4 hours of work into a 40 hour work week!

If you have very little work to do and it's not just a temporary fluke, then you should be seriously concerned about loosing your job. At these commodity prices Noble is operating at a loss. Until prices rise management will continue making periodic staff cuts. Idle hands will be particularly vulnerable. Use your extra time wisely. Ask your boss for more work if it's available. Most importantly look aggressively for a new employer, you're probably going to need one.
