Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Has anyone heard the rumor that Sears is considering selling off its service division? Any truth to it?

The scuttlebutt is that Cross Country wants to by in home service. Not sure if it's true but they are no longer pushing the MPA. It's all about the Sears Home Warranty now; which is underwritten by Cross Country.

Home service is cutting costs by laying off, denying most supply requests by the techs, and having the customers sign pages of documents for possible damage and pre existing damage. Training is non- existent now and the safety meetings no longer center around safety, they center around making sure the customers sign the forms.

They are grasping for every call ran. Pushing the techs for SHW sales and PM add ons to the point of threatening the techs. I believe by keeping the overhead down and call volume and sales up, they're trying to make Home Service look very buyable.

sears is blindsiding and laying off quite a few in-home repair techs, that's why it takes 2-3 weeks for service calls. thousands of sears repair agreements out there, don't know how they could sell the division with all those, somebody's going to lose. a lay-off turned out to be a blessing in disguise for me stress-wise.

Thanks Eddie

Sears service is a nighmare. Look at the online reviews and complaints. Their warranty and service contracts have had complaints and legal issues for years. The Sears name and reputation has been tarnished beyond repair. Our old manager quit last year and I saw him recently and he is having a hard time finding a new job because companies are leery of hiring someone from SHC. Pretty bad if that is true.

Autozone is looking at buying the auto centers. Someone has to buy the Auto Centers because of all of the warranty issues. It is a legal nightmare.

I don't know about home service, but in my Sears store, we are no longer accepting any four cycle or two cycle gas products for service, members are given the names of two local service shops in area to take lawn and garden items to.

This seems to be a step in the direction of getting rid if all shop service for products, home service is still by Sears,so far anyway.

Is this true in other stores?

They have been talking about selling the service division and automotive division for years. I think it's safe to say there can't be much interest in either of these businesses, or they would have already been sold. Sears retail is near dead, and anybody with any interest in the names or businesses can just wait a few months and buy from the bankruptcy scrap heap. It wouldn't make sense to buy anything associated with Sears Holdings now.

The asset game is just about over. Maybe EL and company can sell some more real estate. This is all they have left of any real value.

They are trying to sell everything. Whether or not they are getting offers is an unknown matter.
