I assume you are speaking about a working in a support group (ie. HR, Accounting, IT, etc). Because no petrotechnical folk would ask such a question.
Let us use the example of accounting (because I know Marathon just hired on an accountant). Someone like that probably came from a firm as probably didn't have any industry specific experience. If they are looking down the road to gain some industry experience.. sure.. no biggie.. easy to come and go since accounting jobs are plentiful.
As you are aware the industry is cyclical.. Its a down time right now and morale is down.. They are probably milking you for all your worth.. Why do you think there are these openings to begin with? Because people that filled these positions have left willingly to find a job that might not be paying as much but in a company where the atmosphere is better. That being said.. Marathon is having to overpay to attract attract people to fill these empty position(s) for the support groups.. (i have been told by other accountants that headhunters are calling around.. especially within the industry..)..
Take these facts as it is.. make a choice based on your career aspersions..
