Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Human Resources

Hey HR - how do you hire someone to head the EA campus but let them go 3 days later?????? Are you that scared of being sued? you had to know he consulted for a competitor?!?! what a joke you people are! And you want us to complain to you? you can't even make up your minds who to hire!!!? Maybe you should go drinking with the NYC HR disaster at MSG.

We actually blame you folks in ES for the bs. You get to work 3 hours later than the real workers in the company, yet leave at the same time we do. You're unproductive and your toys are horrible:

Barbie - nothing has worked - all the sales comes from overspending in advertising - Any Schumer as Barbie?! I know Barbie is a joke, but she as the lead is just cruel

HotWheels - it's all borrowed interest from "character cars" from licenses (which Hasbro invented first)

Any fashion doll - same ol', same ol' - yawn from the consumer

Matchbox - Baking Mixer truck, Hydroponic vehicle - ???? - really???!!!!!

All the licenses in ToyBox - you treat as 2nd class citizens vs. your "core brands" and the licensors hate it

You can't keep talent for more than a year - they all go to Spinmaster, Hasbro, MGA and JustPlay - who have al set up shop outside your door

This is productive? I think there's an awful lot of laziness and lack of talent in the ES campus, but don't worry - after the dismal year we're having, the only choice Mattel BOD and shareholders have is to start selling off brands.

Oh man SL is a proper toilet fire but you guys in NYC can't blame all of your bs on her. Put under pressure you guys would rather turn on each other. So yes SL has no plan. She's faking it to making it. But I've read a lot of previous posts about your bitter little outpost there and it is just a black hole of despair.

SL is one of the absolute worst human beings i have ever worked for. I thank god that most of her time in NYC is spent sequestered in her glass cage. She is without a doubt the most confusing component in the mattel hierarchy. she fails everywhere she goes, cannot pick a licensed brand to save her life yet because the thomas numbers are up (slightly mind you), she's considered a success story. Keep in mind that many of the products currently at market were concepts by designers long since gone from NYC, but she like her cronies will take credit for it all. The people shafted by her are endless and i truly believe that she lost that weight because she's so ugly on the inside that revamping her outward appearance was the only way she'd get her bf to marry her.

Maybe if you entitled Californians could keep SL in her cage out west, we'd have an easier time getting along. She fosters divisiveness with her temper tantrums and power grabs. As for backstabbing, how'd TK get ousted? :-)

The sad part about NYC is that they are such a small group that on their best day cannot get along. so much in fighting and back stabbing.

What's richer, California Monkey - it that you think it's any different where you are. The majority of Mattel's problem is that it realizes almost entirely on the fate of Barbie and yet doesn't have the ability to continue to make it popular. When you put all your eggs in one basket, how do you NOT make it work?! It's because leadership, and more importantly, DECISION MAKING is not the priority.

You peeps in California seem to think you have it all figured out yet, you've got nothing to point to for your own success, so you always point the finger east, to deflect your own massive shortcomings.

That's rich coming from a singular office where people can't even stand to be with each other in the same room. It's like a prison in the NY office. And your warden is looting you. That place is rife w pettiness and despair.

Needless spending on the Eat Coast?! Are you crazy?! The West Coast has 5 buildings dedicated to in-fighting, mediocrity and crappy toys. The only thing you have out there are competitors who steal the best of your talent at the drop of a hat, and licensors who hate and rob you.

With your 20-somethings complaining about not getting promoted every 6 months and leadership team who can't stop attacking each other to actually drive the business, you'll never get anywhere. In spite of all that, the East Coast won Toy of the Year last year and has more entrants in it this year than the West Coast.

NYC is the most productive office Mattel has - on a sheer person to profit ratio it's higher than ES, EA and Madison. Just look at the numbers, you "artist".

The east coast needs to be shut down and all operations moved out west under one roof. why are we wasting money on a campus and NYC rents? such needless spending!

Sounds like a lot of east coast whining.

MZ is protected by SL. Until she's gone, the crap and ridiculous spending and cookie cutter approach to line building will continue. She needs to be fired by JC first then all can be happy :)

To Kk8qjEs-3lms:.

Hey, Dopey - know your facts:

1) FP Brand re-designs - driven by ES who can't get Barbie right

2) Adler - RD's friend who he forced onto the company

3) Hit Rate for FP: 75%, Hit Rate for Mattel: 22% - 'nuff said

Every poor decision has come from West Coast transplants meddling in a business they don't understand.

so true. between the left coast losers and the downstate transplants it's a constant change of direction and ineffective leadership. look at all the talent we've let go or lost to the competition. It's a shame. There was a time when EA had so much more comraddere and unity.

yep, pretty inept and indicative of the poor management offered from the ES Campus. CS would have been the best thing to happen to Fisher Price in quite some time. These Carpet Baggers that have been inserted into FP wouldn't know a real FP toy if it came up and kicked them in the shin. These transplants, striving to meet cost and schedule, struggle with or ignore the concept of delivering an intriguing toy that has that spark of magic that was the secret to making a real Fisher Price Product of years back.

ES broke Fisher Price in more ways than one.

and yet EA has had more branding redesigns, hired adler to fluff up

the brand and garner attention as a true designer designing toys, your post is laughable. makes me wonder if it's time to close the po dunk campus and let you all go and watch EA. turn into the depressed town filled with drunks and junkies it was destined to be. throwing stones from inside your glass house will only get you cut sonny jim.

BTW - EA has some of the best, most talented and hardest working designers and marketers in the industry - certainly more qualified with more results than the folks in ES (who are all over-paid, under-deliver and simply don't know how to work hard). When you can show us a HotWheels basic car that makes more the a dime in true profit, or ANYTHING other than a fashion doll line, for god's sake!! When you have to over invest (again) in Barbie to make your headlines on Wall Street and make it look like the company can make it's revenue number, then it's time to shutdown the 5 (count 'em) buildings that house the Elite and the Over-Indulged.

Um, blame this one on Legal - not HR. Legal is the one that couldn't get their act together and review the information promptly. It's their fear that fuels this behavior.

As for HR, why they aren't standing on the neck of the Legal team for embarrassing them like this is beyond me. How they don't have pride enough to fight the internal politics is just stupid. I would think RG would have more clout in a sitch like this.

Surprised? The HR VP who was initially picked to head up the transition in Montreal when we acquired MEGA was fired before he even got to Montreal due to his racist behavior.

HR is a clown car. Is it any wonder they make horrible decisions?
