There are many job postings on Qualcomms website that "multiple positions" are open in Engineering. Are these real openings that Qualcomm plans to fill up? Or are these just job postings meant to only collect resumes? I am a job seeker and have been disappointed that most of the jobs posted on company webbsites are not real openings.

If you live in San Diego, then sure go ahead. What do you have to lose? You can at least apply for a position or two and perhaps do couple of interviews. It is good as an experience. But I wouldn't move to San Diego just to work for Qualcomm. At least not now when a big merger is coming up. Move to a place where you have many opportunities. San Diego s---s.
even qcom is hiring , dont risk your career by joining. qcom was good once upon a time but now its just full of crap, politics. there will be zero learning and you will be working with outdated tools and skills.
qcom is full of status collectors at different level doing same thing every day , pretending to be busy, having lunch meetings in name of initiatives and at end things are same as it is.
They are hiring for certain areas like automotive, machine learning, self driving cars, so forth. Probably also virtual reality.
Have you ever wondered why Qualcomm is placing employment ads while it has been laying off employees and is struggling with mismanagement and financial troubles? Have you questioned why some of the ads appear in obscure local newspapers such as OC Register?
The company is hoping that no one would apply for the position that they have posted, and if someone does, they will find a way to declare him/her unqualified.
These ads are part of the "labor certification" process to obtain Permanent US Residency (Green Card) for a foreign worker that they have already imported and hired on an H-1B visa (work visa) for the position.
U.S. immigration authorities require companies to place such ads and demonstrate that the company "could not find a U.S. worker who could do the job", and therefore justify the need to grant permanent U.S. residency to a foreign worker for the position.
That is why Qualcomm hopes nobody would apply to their job posting and if someone does, they would find a reason to disqualify him/her.
This is an abuse that is rampant in the tech industry. They bring in cheaper foreign workers to the U.S. to replace U.S. workers.
