Thread regarding Sears layoffs

It's rumored that certain Sears stores won't be opening on Thanksgiving day. That should piss people off

Our store is in WA and we are closed Thanksgiving. WA does not have blue laws.

It is said that we will remain closed as we don't have the budget or the sales forecast to stay open.

I kind of think this is a smart move. Last year we were open (with no electronics department) and a lot of customers (many who have never shopped our store before) were getting ticked off since that's what they came in for. Our sales reflected that.

I wonder what Sears' holiday sales numbers will look like with so many stores lacking electronics? Yes, electronics is low-margin, but it is a high-volume category during the holidays. It brings people in.

This is outside of blue law states. Hard to see those store staying open much longer when the company that makes people stay open until 9 on F&F with absolutely no traffic decides they are not eating the expense of opening on the second biggest day of the year (behind actual Friday)

Some states have a "Blue Law" which prohibits stores from opening on Sundays and Holidays.

There is some stores that will not be opening on thanksgiving. They will open at 5 am on Friday instead the list is not huge but significant for such a big day
