Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Another round in March 2017??

Our senior leader told everyone during his "all clear" speech said that we are done with layoffs for "at least the next few quarters". Based on the track record of layoffs every November and March for the last 4 years the comment was hardly a surprise. If you survived this round your luck may run out in the next.

@KcRqETo-2njp - Reportedly NTAP sales people make more commissions selling filers than they do selling block storage (eseries.) Guess which one they are going to place whenever they can???

I assume the one word post, "Intel", is a reference to a rumor that seems to be picking up traction about a potential Intel acquisition of NTAP. From the outside I'm not sure how much business sense this makes but stranger things have happened. Acquisition or another major product strategy refocus seem inevitable. Both require a continued focus on opex reduction. NTAP remains ripe for further cost cutting up including headcount reduction. The "every 6 months" sentiment is shared.

NetApp missed the cloud wave and was late on flash.

c-mode also failed. NetApp > /dev/null, unless somebody buys it

I was shown the door in may 2013 after working for 5 yrs.

I started with NetApp in 2008. They had a layoff around the end of that year. It was only the second one in company history. Starting in 2012 the layoffs started again and more frequently. Tom Georgens made a decision to acquire Engenio and was supported in this decision by executive management. The acquisition was a bust. Not because of the product or acquisition. It was because NetApp didn't understand the OEM business and was going to integrate this acquisition into there model and not listen to any one on the Engenio side because what did they know. That was why the product and acquisition never worked out as planned. I know I was on the NetApp side not Engenio. NetApp was arrogant and it was s nightmare from beginning to end. We alienated the Engenio people and didn't help them at all. That is why you see Wichita and most everyone associated with that product getting let go and the layoffs will continue

@KcRqETo-mie have you left the company?

I'm sure that they want to leave but need to line up another job first since they didn't get a package. The question is, why are you on this site? Are you the appointed NetApp troll? How much does that position pay?

If you are still an employee of NetApp and you are on this thread and aren't happy with your job and the company and you weren't in this round of lay offs. Please leave. You are poison in the system. Go find "greener' grass.

To the person who said layoffs every 6 months was not the new norm..... Clearly you are not in IT or product ops because we have seen consistent layoffs every 6 months. Maybe not for 4 years like the poster claimed but at least for last 2 and a half years. Hate to agree but it's truth. We are still more than 10,000 employees in a company that should not require more than 7k at most. The beatings will continue until we are finally sold off to highest bidder.

OK. I'm sorry but that is just an outright lie. NetApp has NOT has lay offs for twice a year for the last 4 years. It is NOT the new norm. Quit being a DI*K and perpetuating fear and lies. It was a hard day. Show some respect.

Not surprising. Disappointed I didn't get a package this time. Looks like I'll have to leave without that free trip to the bahamas.
