After this layoff, well those who had skills and will work, so that you will recognize those people in other companies, for there will not be a Noble Energy in two years time. Even more important, note well where executives and middle managers land, and, if possible, don't go to those companies. They will carry these poor ideas, laziness, and greed with them.

I would not encourage anyone who I care about to work in this industry. The people who work as foremen, lease operators and hourly employees are good people that value relationships with coworkers more than getting ahead. Managers and CEOs are a different story. It becomes extremely cutthroat at the higher levels. They are trained by HR to be skilled at deceit and lying. All last week, managers have been dropping hints about hiring new people and scheduling team building lunches all to make the workers think that nothing is about to happen next week. Its all a front. People are about to be laid off. Scared workers don't work. They want people to keep working up until they walk in to an office with an empty box and say "Can I see you for a minute." When those emails about reducing assetts in the company start going around it's like a death bell gets rung among the workers. It kills motivation and morale.
I think you are right.
PAY ATTENTION: I agree with the previous post. If you're smart you will find a new line of work. Would any of you encourage your kids to get into this business? I would not. Yes other businesses and industries have cycles. Nothing pays like and gas (when times are good)... but nothing tanks like oil and gas either. No industry gets "rid" of people like oil and gas.
PAY ATTENTION: when you get laid off, get out of oil and gas. That is all.
Absolutely - I've worked at both places (ExxonMobil and Noble Energy) and there is no comparison to Management Style - Staff Integrity, and knowledge level. You are right - the Noble Managers I know would never cut it at ExxonMobil or many other Companies who are properly managed. Some top managers (with decision making powers) are not even close to being qualified for the position they are in..... or even degreed. SMH..... So nice to be back at a well managed company ! Refreshing !!!
Agreed. Most if not all of the SVP's and upper managers would not last at a bigger company like ExxonMobil. Their poor skills would be too evident
