Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Don't despair!

I worked at NetApp for 2 years. Was one of the first co-ops hired from the Wake Tech/NetApp collaboration. Did very well and received good praise of my work the whole time. Didn't matter though. Cut in the March 2016 RIF.

The smartest thing I did was that I immediately started applying to jobs the same day Kurian's email came out about the 12% cuts (the actual RIF came ~6 weeks later). <4 weeks after being cut, I had a decent job. While it wasn't true at the time, I'm now very glad I left NetApp.

Don't despair!

You should have already done it, but polish that resume, hit LinkedIn, Glassdoor and every recruiter you ever worked with (that's how I got my current position).

Connect with every person you know in other companies. This all works. Sooner or later, you get that hit that leads to the next job.

To add a brief comment you sir/madame are 100% correct.

People that have been let go, lets say 80% are some of the best and brightest.

And yes unfortunately the highest paid.

Its not personal, its about dollars.

I received 4 offers within 3 days, of being let go.

Signed offer on the next Monday, and to thing i was scared, that i would end up al WalMart as a greeter.

Best thing that ever happened to me plus 45% uptick in compensation.

Thanks Dan, George, and Curry Man, your horrible management of the company has given me a new life.

anyone left do not despair, go to a partner, since if you are technical, thats where the jobs are.

great luck to all former NTAP family and friends, it was a great run.

But life goes on.

and upper management will still continue to destroy the company, what do they care, have you seen their separation compensation, they could care less about the other 10K employees, they will just leave cash the check and move on to the next company to destroy.

If you are an engineer or IT then yes, you will be hired quickly. Other job functions outside of Silicon Valley, not so much.

Ditto on everything you said.

My team was clipped in 3/1. They did it in the exact same fashion as everyone else said here -- email at 8am EST, conference room bookings, etc.

Our boss told us he had to whack us and then at the end he himself would be whacked. His last day was the same as ours.

Everyone got hired elsewhere just days (if not a few weeks) later. The market is really good for NetApp'ers.
