Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Its not bad

Guys, believe me getting impacted is not that bad. I got impacted in march16. Got another offer within 4 weeks. Negotiated with new employer to let me join after NetApp period. Got severance from NetApp and joining bonus from new employer.

Moreover they converted my unvested NetApp shares to equal amount for there shares with same vesting period.

So its a new begning and things will work out surely.

My team (about 10) got whacked last 3/1. It was the best thing that happened to all of us.

I had a job in 2 weeks, and the others had jobs in about 3-5 weeks. In my case, I made about 40%.

Hang in there, everyone!

You still get severance if you find another position in another company, maybe you meant if you found a position within NetApp in that 60 days, then yes you lose severance money...but really with how things are, who would wanna stay at NetApp after being axed...unless family and bills force you too of course

As part of California's WARN labor law, NetApp continues the affected people as employees for 60 days with pay and benefits, at the end of that 60 day period, you will receive your severance. If you take another position prior to the end of the 60 day period, you will not receive your severance pay. This is for US based employees, for other countries, you will have to refer to those countries labor laws.

Good luck to all in this stressful time

If you dont join new employer for two month. Netapp pay check will run. I take is to take the offer and put joining date after two months.

I was curious about that too. I want to find a job right away, but I also want to take advantage of the 2 months of pay from NetApp.

So reading above it appears to be saying if you find another job before the two months of NetApp paychecks runs its course, them the NetApp paychecks stop? Is this accurate?

Not so bad if you live in communities immersed with tech jobs. Wichita has been completely reliant on propping up the aircraft industry and manufacturing jobs for so long, and has not attempted to entice tech companies to branch out here. Plenty of skilled workers with top-notch universities, with low cost of living allowing for lower salaries. Yet, no tech jobs.

When layoffs happen in Wichita, only option is to typically uproot and leave.

Ditto, I was clipped in March 1 (Emerging Technology Group). I got a job about 2 weeks later with about 4-5 months severance after all was said and done (3 months + sales payouts). Everyone in my group got a job without about 2-5 weeks, and we all made more (50% more in my case).

Start looking for new gigs ASAP and it will all work out.

It really is that bad. Maybe not as bad in Sunnyvale because of the large job market to draw from in Northern California. In the other states like Wichita for just one example the market is not the same as California. Bottom line if you work at NetApp you're going to always be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting. If a package is not something you can live with. It's probably best to use your time if you survive this one finding your next opportunity while still on the payroll.

Why would you be on a layoff site if you've moved on with active employment. Either BS or you're lacking in the life dept.
