Thread regarding PPG Industries Inc. layoffs

Tired manager

I have been with PPG since being acquired in 2013. I'm a manager in architectural coatings. I have worked for a few different companies in the paint industry. I have never worked for a company that cares so little about their people. They make really bad business decisions. Their paint stores are opened on most major holidays. They give floating holidays but having the stores open when they do little to no business, and then honoring the floating day leaves us understaffed, which we already are, on a busy day. They grew too fast, really don't know what they are doing. Moral is really bad. As far as pay you don't get recognized for the positive things you do. The extra effort you put in. Some verbal recognition on local level but nothing either way from up above. Sad, so much potential and they have no idea.

I confirm. At least at SW you would get a free vacation when you walked the stage. Here you get a cheap gold ring. I have 2 now in my 3 years and I’m ready to leave.

Agree with everything said. Was there when take over occurred . Retired this past July after 33 years. Don't think they knew what they were getting into. Grew to fast. Not really concerned about employee benefits .

I worked for them 20 years ago. Was a rising star! Tremendous hours, no real supervision. Emotional manager and sales staff. Honesty recognized by some, but the pressure was really intense. My efforts and ability not supported and I suffered from stress. Most of my peers tended to be opportunistic and covert. I was approached by four of my former colleagues and asked to join a class action suit. I ran away at that time thinking I would be blacklisted and wanting to continue my career. It's always bothered me. Lots more but you get the gist of it

I agree with this 1000% - "They grew too fast, really don't know what they are doing"

At some point you hit the limit as it relates to 'reasonable and profitable growth" - never forget that
