typical short sighted leadership of the community as wells as the big green box on the hill. Let's spend money we do not have on items that we do not need, lets forget or ignore and neglect what we have. Typical if we build they will come attitude. How about we repair the community, starting with the typical Sidney/Cabelas Narcissistic attitude of the town leadership.
With the uncertainty of the merger -instead of cutting back on expenses the city wants to spend money on Hickory Square. It is a pain when they have it blocked
Sidney is dead, dead i tell you. There are still to many bellying up to the kool aid bar and buying the lies spewing forth from the Sidney Cartel and the Cabelas e-team.
The few businesses that are looking to locate to the are will not offset the grievous amount out job losses that is about to hit the community.
Wonder how the city will pay all these improvements that wee demanded by those oh so smart individuals the Cabelas brought in
How about Boondoggle estates and the 800 or so, ahem, affordable housing that Cabelas was going to build.
The wise men and women of vision, these educated individuals who were brought to our community, and told us how to spend our money, well how did that build it and they will come mentality work?
They made a mess and a disaster out of our community, now it is up to us, those who chose to or unable to leave to fix the problems .
They make a mess and leave the fine residents (save a few individuals) the responsibility of coaxing a rose out of a dung heap.
I am here to tell you unless a miracle is on the horizon, very doubtful'. Sidney will be a place people pass by on the interstate, with a a second glance.
This isn't my first corporate rodeo and I am here to say that Cabela's is done. Corporate has completely disconnected with the work force and the customers. They will s--- what money is left out of the company and then it will flutter away. You can't claim 6 BILLION DOLLARS of credit card debt (Cabela's Club Visa) as an asset.
Bottom line, it is about the dollars and with Bass Pro paying way too much, it will be very unlikely that the combo will survive. This is Tommy's gig- he had this planned as he has done in the past - very unfortunate. The post about the managers being at fault is laughable - they are told what to say to the troops, often with little background. It is high tier incompetence at its best and they are rewarded for it - very unfortunate.
Until the money things rears it's head. Closing is easier than keeping open. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!
Crap by any other name still smells the same.
In the end, it's all about the money. Tommy said he cared too, but look how that turned out. If closing Sidney makes BP more money, they'll board up the town in a heart beat.
The man was probably told to give the same speech to everyone that asks about the merger (form letter speech). Except reality this town is divided and distrust runs to deep.
I don't know if this helps or not...I used to work for Cabela's in Sidney. After the layoffs, I was fortunate to be offered a position in another state with another company and moved. I was in a local Bass Pro visiting with district manager who just happened to be there and mentioned my previous employment status. He told me that there has been a lot of talk at the BP corporate offices about the changes that will be taking place and how to cause as little disruption as possible....he said the overwhelming feelings are of genuine care and concern for the residents of Sidney. Obviously, he wasn't able to share any details with me, he assured me BP doesn't want to see Sidney destroyed by what's happening. They understand how strongly Cabela's is tied to Sidney and how all of this impacts even those not employed by the company.
That was hard to watch. I left a long time ago (April 2014), long before any rumors had started. And to be honest I never liked it there in Sidney. The long months of cold and nothing to do. But I still feel bad for those that grew up there, made their families there...and now this. Just because it wasn't right for me, it was definitely right for some. My heart breaks for the few friends I actually still have there. We don't keep in touch really, but I know they are there via FB. One is young and will be just fine; the other is a family of 4 and I just don't know what they're going to do.
It doesn't take much of an imagination to feel the frustration. When you go to work and place all your personal belongings in a box under your desk just in case this will be your last day is stressful. When you think should I start looking for a new job now or should I wait another 6 months to see if I still have a job here is stressful. If I do start looking for another job will I be able to take the time off to go to an interview is stressful. Will i be able to sell my house if I put it on the market is stressful. If I do sell my house will I be able to pay off the mortgage is stressful. Will my children adjust well if we have to move is stressful. Will my spouse find a good job if we have to move is stressful, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
Oh those turbulent times. What doesn't kill you will make you better.
I hate to say this but stress can kill. I'm sure it won't kill me but it sure as heck doesn't help when you have been told lie after lie. Don't worry, Don't worry everything is fine, the company is strong, there are currently no discussions of being sold, we have a plan, Cabela's will still have a presence in Sidney, the city is working with BPS and attracting other businesses, etcetera, etcetra, etcetera.
It's the eceteras that will kill me.
i do believe he was just trying to be kind lol, Not being there, not experiencing the conditions, Those of us on the outside have no idea what this community is experiencing.
Turbulent times? That's putting it lightly.
