I haven't checked this site for over a year, I was caught up in a facility closure in September 2015. I too was what I thought was a dedicated employee, working anytime, anywhere, in any weather. Worked every bit of O.T that I could get, pretty much the thing to do at the time. When the new shale formations hit it big, things really picked up, hiring guys by the hundreds, many younger guys disliked the O.T. and left pretty quickly, but most of us older guys stayed the course and pounded it out.
Halliburtons benefits, 401K, year end 401K contributions were great, until the bottom fell out.
This Baker Hughes merger was a total disaster, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Iraq, Asbestos, and now oil pricing, we almost survived it all.
Once they closed the doors, the entire area absorbed the hit.
Remember the Valdez oil spill in Alaska, most everyone that went up there worked O.T. and made a bundle, only to blow it............
Kind of what I tried to tell the younger guys, this shale business won't last forever........
They didn't listen.
Find yourself another line of work, this oil/gas situation won't buy you a new home or put your kids through college until oil bounces back.
As for Halliburton, what a disappointment our leadership exhibited, cost all of us something, cost some of us our careers...........
The below post is right on target.
Hallibuton will be #3 at best. When it flew the flying H it was #1.
Customers will soon see that the personal qualification are absent.
But all Halliburton management cares about is best practices. And all different forms to check off. There will be cost correction jobs.
Think long and hard about a sub par career with Dave's boat.
You can do better than working for #3.
At one time Halliburton was worth working for, even making a career of, but now, IF you are a field hand, you are nothing but an expendable walking, talking monkey.
IF you are lucky enough to get a semi autonomous position, you WILL be micro-managed by mostly incompetent 'leaders', who may, or may not have any field experience in your PSL, and you WILL be questioned on YOUR every decision, even if the customer representative agrees with your recommendation, Halliburton management will not.
Service hands have always been at the bottom of the heap, and now since Halliburton is the new #3, the customer cannot help but think that the hands on location will be fully representative of their #3 status. Halliburton mismanagement reflects on even the best intent.
No, there are far better service companies out there, who are willing to teach and trust their people, who are willing to go the extra mile to win the work, and do a great job, and who are NOT riding on their name and past reputation.
BUT, if you want to really shine, get on with an oil company, learn your skill, and YOU be the one giving the orders and worrying about the competency of those employed by the new #3 oilfield service company.
Yes i do agree go for a better carrier opening especially if you want to go for an apprentishi as your future shall be in your own hands and you shall make a lot more money than working for halliburton and you also have to take into account the benefits you are looking for i.e. holidays paid extra for over time and working away from home over the festive period as that what halliburton shall not give you the decide what you shall get and you will be very surprised that you shall not get much at all for a company that will not care for you so make the correct move and don't work for them
True comments that speak the truth we work for less along with poor benefits and top brass that only care for manager's and above.
Work offshore Christmas along with new year and get no extra at all
What a poor show.
