I can tell you that no Ponca City employees will be begging for their jobs back. Most have been offered jobs in Houston declined. Mostly because they have had enough. Lower pay and no insurance is still better.

"Please... if we call you, you will answer, and beg for a job" - wrong! As I recall, Schlumberger called me three times for help and a call-back for a job. And as I recall, I declined the offer as I didn't think Schlumberger was done with their head count reduction. There are other jobs in the area with better benefits. So friends, relax and get that bonus. Because the days that you dread pulling into that parking lot are coming to and end.

Please... if we call you, you will answer, and beg for a job like all the other "real men" who are playing the role of the strong guy but not even so secretly are calling everyone down here begging for a position because you can't afford to lose your insurance, you have a family, you can't retire yet.

Yes, some guys have enough savings to retire early, the others are whining like babies.

Please.

Oh well, 45 days from now it won't be my problem any more. And don't call me with any questions. I'm done.

The move in Ponca is going as expected. It has been a train wreck from the start, with nothing going as planned. Of course the people involved with the move knew this was what to look forward to. It is running exactly as you would expect any Scumberger project to run.

Corporate krap as usual from a dying company. Totally out of touch.

Like it or not, corporations aren't democracies. They value your knowledge, more than one person, such as the one who showered only once in the months with 28 days, made up a career from reporting this knowledge to upper management, right now that person is in charge of all these "technicalities". On the other hand, Muzzi never supported safety in any plant he managed, he's been using a terror tactic in Houston since he has been there, there are plenty of recorded falsified reports in the system, and he buried the ties to him getting rid of all the management responsible for these reports.

As you experienced, the managers who were stern about safety, quality, best practices, and respect for the workforce, have been catapulted so far away that is not even funny to tell. The Italian dynamic duo only rode the wave, but the call were made much higher than that. The best manager who handled DT&R lasted about one year, just because he tried to oppose the top beancounters and tried to rebuild an organization which value what should really value, products and people.

This much vaunted 'transformation' rubbish, like the 'Engage to Excel' nonsense, are just invented essentially to cover up totally disconnected and hopeless management . If decent management existed at Schlumberger there would be no need for any of this utter nonsense as that is what managers are hired for and are PAID for. Of course management embrace these half-assed 'initiatives' as they know, deep down, that they would have no chance of a job any where else at the stupid salaries they gather.

There were 3 major design flaws behind the big bits. These were pointed out in the BEFORE the first forging arrived.

  1. Most of the manufacturing process copied the 3 cone process - this was a different product but management didn't see this.

  2. Where the current 3 cone processes didn't work, they used the hammer percussion processes for a fix.

  3. Management used the Italian approach/method.

Using these flaws you end up with a product with no regards to efficiency, quality and most importantly, safety.

Well said. The Ponca employees were always at their best when just left alone to do their jobs. Previous management knew this an that's the reason for so many record setting runs in the field. The reason why we were number one in the world. It was a good place to work. Full of talented and dedicated people who loved their jobs and had great pride in the product they made.

“Italy is up and running because you guys in Ponca failed badly with the big bits” enough said. NO, failing with Big Bits should be attributed to a military management team that doesn’t have a clue about bit manufacturing. The military “follow me” and God help you if you have an alternate opinion creates “followers” not functional Team Members. Investing millions of dollars in the wrong machines to fabricate the product doesn’t help! Don’t hold an incompetent management team against the talent and experienced Ponca City machinist.

The Italy plant is only up and running because the two Italians, one in Ponca and one in Houston are making the calls. The Italy plant was scheduled to close and the Italian government intervened. Italy does and always has made junk bits. Drillers In the U.S. Won't buy an Italy bit and probably won't buy one made in Houston. Ponca City had a reputation that went back many many years.

Italy is up and running because you guys in Ponca failed badly with the big bits and because you can't sell to certain countries. Unless Trump start removing embargoes, italy is safe, actually expanding thanks to the failure of the move.

They will be built in Houston by inexperienced, untrained, undedicated employees using worn out machines to build a product they care nothing about. Might as well sell it now because it won't survive.
