If there is a shed of truth to what Johnny Morris said, this has been in the works for about 10 years. Back then I heard some of the names involved were Jim and Dennis. D--k was still alive...you know he was aware of it, and if he was aware of it, you know Mary was aware of it. Face it, the Cabela's family was aging and wanted out. Tommy was brought in to fulfill their wishes.
I agree with he post that Mary had nothing to do with this, she was effectively silenced and censored by the board. As to the Sidney cartel. YES they had a equal portion of the destruction of Sidney.
When on the the city council three of the five are/were senior officers of Cabelas, one a lackey and the other with loftier political ambitions. it is of no surprise that Cabelas received everything they demanded from the city. Yes the Sidney Cartell they helped drive the nails into the coffin of Sidney with their lust and desire for power as well as the greed and nepotism that went hand in hand with the corrupt E-team of Milner and band of miscreants, to achieve the goals that were put forth.
The remnants will now be forced to pay the price for the visions and desires of those near sighted fools who only looked to themselves and how they would be able to profit from the situaitons
"The stores look absolutely terrible. Really sad."
I don't think they care.
This has nothing to do with the Sidney Cartel or Mary - this is Tommy at his lowest along with his crew of misfits and Wal Mart, Home Depot and various other companies that were not in the same league as Cabela's - if, and it is a very small if, the buy out does not go through, Cabela's will quickly impose as it would have if Bass Pro did not buy. Tommy and his crew run it into the ground - look at the results, the debt and the direction he has taken it - classic example of mismanagement. Look at the corporate bully, Brian Lineman - fired yet still on the payroll - we wonder why everything is failing. Look at the website - it is so under powered and merchandised. The stores look absolutely terrible. Really sad.
Baby Boomers? What are you talking about? You must be getting your research from Dr. Seuss.
You "baby boomers" need to do more research. It's really sad that you have to take cheap shots vs coming together. Maybe you should think about how you are one of the reasons we are spending so much money and not making sales?
Everyday that passes is just one more nail in the coffin of what was once a thriving and progressive community. Now all that is left is a shell gutted by the e-team and the Sidney cartel. Those who are left behind chose to stay of forced to stay because financial constraints, will be saddled with a hefty bill to pay, all due to the greed and over indulgence of the social elite who will have long fled the mess they created.
The FTC will most probably force an "X" number of store closures where there is overlap by the two companies - which is unfortunate but the most likely outcome
Great post, Testy. Thank. We have our marching orders, get our leaders involved in this now. Talk is cheap, action is what is needed. Thank you for sharing
Testy, testy! You'd think that Donald Trump was writing! Just kidding! Really though, it would be nice if the city fathers would get off their hind quarters and write to the FTC and voice their concerns about the merger. Currently, the FTC just blocked a deal between Deere and Precision Planting due primarily to a complaint lodged by a single company. Most deals of this size occur in cities with 100k+ or 1m+ of population where the loss of a couple of thousand jobs and movement of a corporate headquarters would be but a blip on a big screen TV. Whereas the loss of CAB to Sidney would be detrimental to the community and surrounding area. That blip becomes a crack on the big TV screen and makes the TV worthless. (I did that analogy so you millennials that Tommy likes to employ would understand!)
Thanks Snowflake.
If you bothered to do any research, you would find that the FTC is just requesting more info from Bass Pro about the sale. This is a common practice with a buyout out a large company. Tommy and Mary have nothing to do with this. Except running Cabelas into the ground and putting us in this position.
