Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Talked to my boss, and...

Well spoke to my boss today and he is worried as normally he has "the list" by now. They asked for his target list of people to "transform" 4 weeks ago but hasn't heard anything since.

I guess we will start to know in a few days.

Hope its not me, I enjoy my job and the people I work with

While i do tend to agree dinosaur management is the problem and bloated middle management but i will say my boss is not that. He has tons of passion and innovation in what our group does. I must say I tell people I work for my boss not NetApp.

Your comment while generally true doesnt apply in my case, i will go work for this persone whenever and wherever

Good cut the useless managers. They are so busy looking for ways to stay busy by getting in people's way who actually do the real work that nothing will be lost. We can't afford so many managers of managers of managers especially when there are now less employees.

Netapp culture and technology is very much alive. Its the old fart retarded leadership that's killing the company deep from within.

Well since I am the thread starter I will update.

I got the 1:1 Invite from my boss's boss for tomorrow. Called my boss and he is pissed that they are whacking me without telling him. Then the rest of his team got call invites and he got one preceding all of ours.

Tea leaves read as my boss is gone, Then the subsequent calls are to tell my two other team mates they are safe and Im either out or in a new role.

If your manager is the person going over terms in person or on the phone, then he knows the day before, typically around 1-2. If your manager is not going over terms with you then he will not be notified until the day of, unless he pokes around.

Source I was a manager at NetApp and cut people two rounds ago. I knew about my Sunnyvale people and a few more I had to talk to. I had another guy cut in Raleigh I was clueless about the Raleigh guy until the next morning. My boss might have been able to tell me but he was kept in the dark because he got hit.

That's b---s---. Your manager knew and took the pu--y way out by feigning ignorance. It could be true that he wasn't involved in choosing the list if he is a low-level manager but he absolutely knew by the time the 30 minute meeting was scheduled.

Your manager might not know at all, My cube mate got hit last round. We were grabbing a beer the night before talking what if's when he got the random 30 minute conference room invite, which from previous rounds we knew it meant you were gone. He called our boss immediately and he had no clue. He swore it must have been a mistake. 20 minutes later he called back and said he got the list and had no idea how they picked the names, looking at pay, stack rank, and ranking it looked totally random.

I' ve been with NetApp for over 12 years and mostly loved it. When my friends were affected last time I felt really sad for them, but then I realized they got the good deal, not me. My boss is such an idiot, he's already tipped his hand that I'll probably be affected this time and I'm actually looking forward to it. Pretty sad.

I wish, I 110% trust my boss and they said they would call me as soon as they knew either direction.
