Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How is it possible?

How does executive leadership and management sleep at night? So many lives impacted from layoffs, piss poor decisions and the inability to admit that you seriously effed up! Sure we have low oil prices, but according to upper management, no one seriously looked at staffing and they all just rode the gravy train until things started looking nasty....

Hurts my heart that none of these high paid fools will be held accountable. Bastards!

If you want to keep your job, you just have to learn to hold your breath and ram your nose up your boss'. And maybe a few more rungs up the ladder: your boss' boss' $&@ too.

I worked for Burlington / COP for many years and all I can say is "as employees, what did you think would happen?". Burlington used to drill 700 wells a years with about 500 employees, then COP, who was drilling about 350 wells a year with 1600 employees bought Burlington. Combined drilling activity dropped to 400 wells a year with a combined work force of over 2000. Nobody was laid off at that time because commodity prices were high and the bank accounts were full. What I can't believe is that the management waited so long to reduce the workforce. Gas prices dropped and stabilized at a low level many years ago and now the oil prices are doing the same thing. Just how do the employees think their salaries are paid? COP needs income to pay salaries! It is sad that people get laid off, but it is a fact of life, especially in these times. If it is any consolation, the employees that COP laid off are not alone, they join 100,000 other Albertans who have been laid off in the past couple of years. The COP trouble train has been coming down the track for many years, and the amazing thing is nobody at COP, management or employees, worried about it. They assumed things would stay the same forever. I believe, based on COP's activity level, that to survive they must lay off more employees. Maybe even another 400 or more. Christmas perhaps? Or February?

Remeber the mantra of the executive: What's right is all me, what's wrong...is out of my control

Zmv you have every right to be hurt and mad. I was cut last October and felt the same way, especially knowing there were horrible cheating backstabbing employees whi were kept. One of my previous supervisors couldn't believe they cut me from my last group. I just wasn't one to kiss up to the boss to keep my job. But I did keep my ethics!

Find good friends, who won't turn their back on you, to vent to. You can get through this and it does help to get another job. My current boss/co-workers are so appreciative and praise me all the time as well as thank me for working hard. I NEVER got that at COP.

Like me, and others, you will eventually heal and realize that being laid off from such a poorly ran company as COP, is a blessing in your life. Blessings to you and others!!

They sleep a hell of a lot easier than you...they have nothing to fear and they still get to decide the future of those that are left.

5his round of layoffs had nothing to do about performance and everything to do about politics. Those who kissed a-- over the past couple of years / months stayed the people with integrity got let go. CPC canada will be broken apart and sold off in 16 months; who will have the last laugh then.

I got laid off and although that did not surprize me 100% what did surprize me was some of the lazy a-- employees who still have jobs. I lost complete respect for my supervisor and manager and hope I never have to see them again. I know I'll feel better when I get another job and my hurt feelings will pass but I will never respect these 2 people again. There is the right thing and the wrong thing and you know which you did. The mantra for the past 2 years has been "It was out of my control". Utter bullshit. Someone made the decision. It wasn't a random lottery system.
