It turns out that I have still managed to keep this job. Does anyone feel lost and unmotivated? Strangely I feel very much lost and not feeling like doing anything at office. How does one overcome this phase? I tried eating dates, chips and even buns but nothing seems to work.

It's called survivor guilt. It turns into lethargy followed quickly by a general sense of despair.

The money IS yours but the company is not obligated to give it to you in a lump sum past 9/30/16. They can give it to you as a monthly annuity instead. It's a yearly decision and based on level of funding. Read the fine print of the annual funding letter. They make a decision the first part of the year and the last announcement came out in April, I believe. The funding has been good in the past but the company wasn't losing money like it is now.
Not sure about that whole only funding lump sum distribution of retirement money through September thing. If you're vested that cash balance pension is yours. You should be able to take it out if separated and pay the early withdrawal penalty if too young. Same for 401k
I was cut in the last round. I can't say I was completely surprised since I reported an ethics violation. HR investigated, hands were slapped, things got better until layoffs and then both the HR BP and I were laid off. Coincidence? I think not. Litigation? COP holds your severance hostage until you agree not to sue. So you're out of a job, no money and bills are still coming in and the only way to get to severance pay is by signing to release COP from bad behaviour so you sign under duress. I'm glad to be gone but truthfully I've never seen a more unethical group of managers than those I saw at COP. It's a scary place to be. I don't think most current employees know that at this time COP has only agreed to fund lump sum distributions of retirement monies through the end of September. Get out while you can.
