This website is a good forum to sound off from people who have either experienced a tragic life event or fear that they will experience such. Anytime something as life-changing as losing your job happens, talking about it helps. But for a surprising number of people who are former colleagues and coworkers, whom if you knew who they were you would probably recall them as decent, affable people, engage in name-calling, slandering, insulting, berating, vile and base behavior. Probably most of them would never say such things in person but on here they speak to others like a perturbed dictator. Granted, it's not unique only to this site it's all over the internet. The difference is on this site almost everyone here is or were former coworkers and colleagues. Professionals at that. Sort of makes you think that the story told in Lord Of the Flies wasn't so far-fetched after all...

Let's be honest: most get laid off because they were not s---ing up to the right people. Classic example is the deepwater group: those boys have been protecting each other for decades. Can't you feel the love?!?! How does a company justify so many people in the group and yet they are doing absolutely nothing (and have no future plans to do anything in deepwater)? There are guys sitting in the office playing pocket pool and pathetically haven't been released simply because of their protectors. Their high salaries with no accomplishments should be let go but noooooo.
I'm sure Glenn S, WAyne S, Don G and the likes will be there for another 20 years. At least diaper wearing Jim Bob left. Talk about useless and yet they think they are the best. What a joke!
Disgusting pigs!
To ZOP: My husband lost his job last October. He worked harder and for longer hours than most people in his group. He wasn't a "brown-noser," and he didn't deserve to lose his job. He served the company with integrity, and he did his job well. Most of the people who have been escorted out didn't "deserve" to be laid off any more than they "deserve" to be diminished by comments such as yours. You like to think that working hard will keep you safe? You're wrong. I suspect there are many reasons people are marked for lay-offs: market forces, for sure, but also being stuck on poor performing projects or being assigned to a less-than-supportive manager. You may feel empowered today because you're still standing, but I suspect that if your attitude at work is anything like what you've exhibited here, you won't have many who will stand with you when the times get tough.
Everyone calm down. It appears things are getting a little heated and out of control here. So, Boo-Hoo, some of you lost your jobs. Be honest, what percent, of you, that lost your job, really did anything? What percent of you really contributed to the company's bottom line? What percentage of you just showed up and drank coffee and ate donuts, surfed the internet, online shopping and calling friends. The most important part of your morning was deciding where to go for lunch. Going to work is just a social event for you. BE HONEST, how many of you actually are / where producers? Not many. To those that slipped through the cracks, and still have there jobs, congratulations. Count your blessing and all those "S----UP, Brown-Nose" moments you had with management. Those who lost your jobs, be happy thinking how long you got away with doing the minimum, or less, for as long as you did.
Best description I've heard of Social media is "It's like having a conversation in the pub, after 9 pints". I guess the real issue for the long termers was the decision to split. I've picked up a lot of negatives feelings around this.
