Spyware Installed On My USB Thumb Drive. How About My BYOD Phone?

"Spotlight" spyware was installed on my USB thumb drive the other day. I was doing nothing harmful or unethical, but such distrust begets my distrust.

I have a couple of questions for those tech savvy folks:

  1. Can COPC install spyware, GPS tracking, audio recording, etc. on my BYOD cell phone?

  2. Can COPC wipe my BYOD cell phone remotely?

Try working for Exxon, they don't allow thumb drives.

Read through the BYOD contract. They have access to everything on your personal phone if installed and can seize your phone at anytime. Also, if you've noticed your work computer is running slower they have installed spyware tracking which folders everyone opens.

It's your responsibility to read and understand company policies and agreements, including those pertaining to using personal electronic equipment at/for work.

And how were you made aware of the installation? As a rule, the process works the other way around. More likely the anti-virus software on the computer detected malicious software on the USB drive.

No naming names here, site rules. @atg, asking for employees names in the middle of layoffs on an anonymous site? That's low, hope no one falls for that.

read the BYOD agreement - they do have a right to look through it. That's why I don't use my personal phone for work

COP has the right to install keylogger or any sort of spyware or monitoring device on thier computers, phones and other equipments. It is the companies property. You are just an employee and your time and brains too belongs to COP between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Mon to Fri while employed with the company. The company did nothing wrong by installing the spyware. By the way, give me your name, I need to include your name in the layoff list on Thursday since you do not appreciate that employment in COP is a favor and not a right. How many companies pay as much? COP has always been and is still one of the best employers for both experienced and fresh professionals.
