Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

A Subprime Education

In a one-hour special on Tues., Sept. 13, FRONTLINE presents two films on education in America. First: In “A Subprime Education,” we return to the story of for-profit colleges — which FRONTLINE first examined in the 2010 film “College Inc.” — to investigate allegations of fraud and predatory behavior in the troubled industry, and the collapse of Corinthian Colleges.

Thanks you for sharing this information. I'm fortunate to teach at a public tax supported community college where we recognize the importance of keeping faculty in charge of meeting the institution's educational goals. In a rare move and one I have only done a few times, I sent the following email out to my faculty colleagues:

With all that we have been hearing relative to the demise of ITT Tech and challenges facing other "For Profit" colleges, I would encourage you to view the PBS presentation that was aired today. I'd appreciate a response from our Nursing faculty as to the quality of education provided by one of the nursing programs identified in the video presentation. You can watch the video by pointing your browser to:

I believe it suggests strongly the 10 + 1 Standards that we as faculty so jealously guard: (http://www.statewidecareerpathways.org/sites/default/files/10plus1%20Meets%20the%20Standards%20Faculty%20Roles%20and%20Responsibilities%20in.pdf ).

"Bit unsure how letting a CPA run a college could turn out bad?"

It is the compulsive bean counting that causes problems. ;)

For a fact, some ITT Tech employees were interviewed for this Frontline show. Maybe they won't be appearing on TV, but some contributed inside information.

Watch "College Inc" first, which is available online at link below. Then, you will already be up-to-speed up by the time the new follow-up show comes on later tonight. Spoiler alert -- Modany had plenty of role models in this industry!
