Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Murthy is a fine human

About 7 years ago, my group was disbanded in San Diego.. ended up jobless. Murthy that had recruited me from Grad school, personally reached out and said he was sorry. He made calls and served as a reference in my job search. 4 months later I had a job that was a great fit. Murthy cautioned not to take first job. He still reached out once a year to touch base.

I know Murthy job at intel is different, but he is one if the finest, smartest person one can meet. If anyone can bring insight it's Murthy.

Agreed with prior people on the 12k. So dumb, so poorly implemented in so many ways. Ban for life? Really?

As for costs, I've seen zero changes made. We're still wasting big bucks on TWWW that people hate. My group's spending is the same. And most of all, we're all stuck in the same red tape and unnecessary processes that we had 2 years ago. Try to fight it and management doesn't budge, even when it's obvious that you're all wasting time for nothing.

Agreed ACT was a huge mistake, it's execution was irresponsible. We cannot walk folks out and just chop them like that after many of them dedicating their life to Intel. I personally know many who literally gave their life for intel, with early mornings, late nights and even weekends for intel. And some even sidelined their own family's time for intel! It is wrong the way we treated these folks through ACT. What is needed is a more sensible cut and more importantly cost control! To date still no direction of cost control with many favored depts spending irresponsibly! I truly cannot understand why BK and gang still do not want to call for control on spending!

From what I have seen of Murthy he is far more intelligent, more eloquent, has more vision, and more accomplished than his boss.

ACT and getting rid of 12k was probably not enough for Intel. What was flawed was how it was done. The way to do it isn't cutting those with one L4/L5 stock and than pressure older employees and those successful but not advancing out to hit an contrived bookkeeping number.

The way should be to cut divisions and cut those that have to many people. The management avoided making the hard decisions and instead decided a little flesh from all parts made sense which was stupid. A arm and a few toes and fingers amputated was what was necessary and would have been more effective. Have no fear that type of layoff is coming in ACTI and ACT2

Its not easy to digest life of 12K people coming to road without any advance warnings or notice.

Most of the companies give advance notice / eMail to the concerned employee . They also open redeployment opportunities.

Here the story is different. Just @ one fine day , job cut and immediate effect. Embarrassed situation for employee as the HR just coming and moving the employee out of the gate and informing fired in-front of every one.

cant think about joining such company.

be ready for a flood of hate posts on this but I appreciate your good story. I think he well knows what he was hired to do and that he would be unpopular doing it--at the very least--as a result
