Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Overall work culture in Qualcomm

My Sr VP of PTE promotes a culture of terrorize and get work done. The Sr. Staff and above will threaten to spoil your reviews if you do not do what they ask rather than explaining how it will help the organization. Is it same culture throughout Qualcomm or its just here. Btw most of the folks who are really capable of finding a job are leaving. The guys who are stuck are a-- lickers who know sh-- or the folks who have bought a house and have kids.

@JlHH9df-5obf, has a female employee ever told a male co-worker..."Nice Bulge!", then slapped him on the butt? Probably not, since it would be hard to find any bulge over the cheetohs induced gut. Suppose it did happen -- If male fatty actually complained and HR came back and said "Don't show your male cameltoe" around then it's safe to say there's no doublestandard

-4qpw: Has HR ever disciplined male workers for wearing pants that were too tight? If not, they better not discipline female workers for their wardrobe choices!

HR doesn't wear mini skirt. HR would blame a regular employee for wearing something too "provocative" among horny loser men should said employee complain about sεxual harassment. Then 1jxn will suggest jumping from the basement after another downward floor revision (like Q EPS)

1jxn again. After company-instilled sensitivity training, I am now recommending that you jump off the first floor. It will help reduce Qualcomm's workman's comp and I am told that some disabled employees are unable to get to the higher floors anyway and I should have been more sensitive to that.

Hey 3dcc,

I guess you haven't noticed that there are lawyers working in HR. They do indeed function as protectors of the company. That's one of their main functions. Look at who gets involved in PIPs, harassment claims, and compliance. It's the lawyers, not the SDSU co-ed in the mini skirt.

@JlHH9df-3dcc, I don't think a bunch of psych major flunkies from SDSU really protect the company. At best they are there to belittle the employee or blaming the employee for wearing too short of a skirt. the lawyers actually protect the company, not HR.

1jxn back once more (last post was a poor impersonation of me).

A couple of points for the naive people here-

  1. HR is not your friend and is not on your side. If you have a real problem (i.e. not some trivial complaint about haveing your feelings hurt) contact someone outside the company. HR is there to PROTECT THECOMPANY.

  2. If you don't like your boss and/or he/she doesn't like you, either transfer to another department, or look for a new job. You will almost certainly loose in a battle with your boss.

  3. If you absolutely have to jump, at least clear the lower balconies so you don't damage the railing glass on the lower ones. If you really want to impress, clear the entire cafeteria roof as well and crater the concrete walk way.

Signs You’re Being Bullied at Work

Even though workplace harassment is unlawful, bullying at work still occurs frequently. If you are being subjected to any of the following behaviors by your supervisor or coworker(s) because of a characteristic, protected by state or federal law contact EEOC or appropriate state agency ASAP to see if you have a valid workplace harassment case.

Common signs of workplace bullying:

Supervisor or coworker exhibits verbal anger or aggression toward you;

Supervisor or coworker exhibits non-verbal aggression toward you;

Supervisor undeservedly punishes you physically, psychologically, or emotionally;

Supervisor or coworker belittles you or your ideas, personal circumstances, work or opinions;

Supervisor or coworker humiliates or embarrasses you in front of others;

Supervisor or coworker is vindictive towards you, threatens revenge, or retaliates against you;

Supervisor or coworker tampers with your personal belongings w/o legal justification or valid security concerns;

Supervisor or coworker stalks, spies on, or pesters you;

Supervisor or coworker forces or aggressively persuades you to lie or do/say things against your will;

Supervisor or coworker threatens you with unwarranted punishment/termination, or uses physical, emotional, or psychological abuse;

Supervisor or coworker communicates with you offensively with demeaning jokes, rumors, gossip, harassment, or profanity;

Supervisor uses unfair tactics to block your progression, growth, or advancement within the organization;

Supervisor or coworker designs an underhanded campaign to oust you from your job;

Sometimes the signs of workplace bullying can go unnoticed because the behaviors start subtly, and then grow into a larger problem.

Subtle signs of workplace bullying include:

Overt or veiled threats;

Supervisor or coworker purposefully ignores or avoids you; “forgets” to invite you to meetings, or selectively greets others;

Supervisor or coworker intentionally excludes/isolates you from meetings, etc.;

Supervisor or coworker consistently tries to rationalize their negative behaviors;

Supervisor fails to address your concerns with the coworker who is bullying you;

Supervisor or coworker makes you feel like you’re the problem for their negative behaviors:

Supervisor or coworker deliberately delays or blocks your work, progress on an assignment, etc. undermining your job;

Supervisor or coworker pits you and other employees against each other to create conflict and competition;

Supervisor removes responsibilities from your role without cause;

Supervisor sets nearly impossible expectations and guidelines and/or constantly changes them to set you up to fail;

Supervisor or coworker takes credit for your ideas and hard work;

@-2qat: Why bother with a class action, where most of the money goes to attorneys? If you have a valid claim, you can file w/ EEOC for free, & make Qualcomm's attorneys waste a day or two in mediation with each of you. You would most likely get more money in about 30 days than you'd get after years of litigation. Remember the time value of money. Also, w/ EEOC filing, your future employer doesn't find out. If only one or two people do this, it's a nuisance to Qualcomm. If you really do have a whole crowd, and the they all do this, it can have a more severe economic impact on Qualcomm's Legal and HR Depts., and they might actually be forced to do something to address the problems.

@-hrp: You must be one of the "evil HR ladies." I brought my problems w/ superiors to HR's attention 3 times before I left. You f*cktards did NOTHING except pretend to be sympathetic and let the issues fester. Why in god's name would anyone with any sense trust you people! The only reason I didn't sue the crap out of all of you is because I had a lawyer who was honest enough to tell me up front that it would be a waste of time and money, because, even if I won, nothing would change at Qualcomm, and it could permanently damage my career prospects elsewhere. So there it is, people. If you're good at your job, go elsewhere. Nothing will change at Qualcomm until they are forced to change their business methods in order to attract qualified engineers.

1jxn again. After consulting with my sensitivity coach, I'm now recommending a simple 3rd floor balcony jump so the OP can collect workman's comp.

Seriously though, Q is not a bad place to work. I think people just got spoiled because it was an incredible place to work in the past. Those who's only work experience is Q have nothing to compare it to.

Maybe the OP just needs a good cry.

So what's the OP's excuse for staying? A--licker or bought a house & has kids? Or could it be that he's just a sh--ty engineer and the thing they're insisting he/she do is COME TO WORK?

I suspect the majority of posters here are either the people who lost their jobs, or are not good enough to find new positions in other companies.

The 11th floor balcony access is still open...

mcz:. Linux Android team is hopeless until all the old timers directors+ folks leave or get replaced. Pointless staying there until it is fixed. These folks are just plain bad... They simply put on facades and are s--- ups.

Better to change teams or look outside Qualcomm, if you are under these leadership.

I don't think anybody should stay in a place of work where they feel threatened or abused. If this is the case, you should bring it up with Human Resources. If you don't get any results from HR, you should try to find a place more suitable for you.

I know it may be hard to start in a new company, but nothing is worth more than you health; physically or mentally.

Sr. Staff also refuse to consider suggested procedures that would improve product, decrease human error, and generally make excessive hours unnecessary--e.g.: better Linux testing programs. So f*ck them all! I left. Glad I did.
