Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

I notice on this site many generalizations such as the use of "us" and "half" where none of these terms is qualified. If you are going to attempt at making intelligble posts about the future outlook for employees, you should at least give people a rough idea of which departments/units and how many (in numbers) will be affected. If you are so sure that so many people are being let go on a certain date range then you must also know which departments and how many people within those departments are affected, as a matter of course.

If, instead you are going to throw out broad sweeping generalizations, please save your breath because saying things like "half of us" are totally meaningless to people that are not working in a campus role or certain other departments. Not everyone works in your unit and not all of us will be affected in the same ways as you and your immediate coworkers.

Like your instructor would say after handing back your C- paper, please use be specific and cite your sources.

We had layoffs on Friday for a few people in my department. The rest of us were given voluntary separation. Almost half of us is needed for the layoff coming in October. Those who want to say these posts are bogus or only rumors, tell that to those who found out that they no longer have a job and the rest of us expected to volunteer. No matter what it's its best to be prepared and while the waiting is stressful at least we know and can begin making plans. The original rumor posts were true about October 7th because that's when we were told would be our last day.

Generic and bogus post is bougus and generic. With the large time frame it could become true. Nothing at all happened the last last layoff to prompt any future security needs.

I was a temp worker in customer service in one of the Ellwood buildings, from March to September 2014. I was laid off largely because of lower than expected call volume, even during their supposedly busy season. I was glad in retrospect. I was feeling increasingly uncomfortable, dealing directly with disgruntled former students, many of whom were overextended on student loans, and clueless prospective students who sounded very hopeful. I eventually found another (better) job, and the next time I pass by the facility - another company altogether has taken over my old building. For-profit education is a scam, taking advantage of the desire for low-income minorities to improve their lot in life. Out of respect to all the nice, cordial and halfway supportive co-workers I encountered at UoP, I hope everyone lands on their feet, because I think the writing is clearly on the wall.

What happened last layoff? It was mostly voluntary. Nothing happened at building 5

Based on last time they will probably hire security to be on campus during the layoff......

This idiotic post in itself is instigating needlessly and without basis.
