few clearance items

I recently went to a Kmart here in phoenix, on a friday at 5pm to see if anything was on clearance. The store was a ghost town - maybe 5 customers. I was expecting to find deals, but most things were normal price. I found some 4th of july stuff marked down 20% (this was a good month after the 4th of july) - I would expect that stuff to be at least 70% off!

So why is it Kmart doesnt have that much stuff on clearance, when no one shops there? Did I go on the wrong day? What is the best day to shop for clearance at Kmart???

When the "Store Closing" banner goes up, it is the worst time to look for clearance. When the liquidators arrive EVERYTHING, even penny merchandise, goes back up to full price. Then they start out at 10% off and increase until they are done. You will have some items at a closing store that are more expensive than the stores staying open. They will have items on sale and the prices will actually be cheaper than at the closing stores as they are no longer on the ad programs.

There was probably more clearance, but it just wasn't marked. These stores have no help, and it is hard to get to everything. If they had more help, they might not end up letting items go all the way down to a penny, and never get marked down. Eddie this is where all your profit goes to.
