Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Good luck to everyone!

Honestly, I have to say this company has been my career's springboard since starting three years ago. I have had nothing but a good experience so far at ConocoPhillips. Thanks to those who have posted sincere posts with good information/advice on this board. Best of luck to all, I hope to see you on the other side...

COP was a great springboard for me as well. I was laid off and I spring boarded to a better job with more pay and more responsibilities. Thank you COP for recognizing that someone with my abilities and potential had no place in your organization of drones, sycophants, and incompetent managers. I truly appreciate that, and the ridiculous amount of money you paid me both before and after for doing menial work that a tech of reasonable intelligence could have performed. COP is becoming like the Self Checkout line at the grocery store. One clerk watching four people do the unskilled work, and when there is a problem, the clerk puts some secret code into the computer and the process can continue. COP is all about process and day to day mundane tasks. No innovation other than way up high in the organization when someone finally recognizes there is a better way to do something and then there is a months long study about changing the process. Remember "quick and nimble" like other independents. It will never happen. Due largely to a large group of middle management that is always looking up the chain for innovation rather than looking down to their staff. It is not even the middle managers' fault. They were cowed throughout there career so they do not know any better. That is why some many of the managers are from within the company. Most folks with experience outside of COP do not survive long enough to become a manager, unless they came in cowed and fit nicely into the ELT worshipping pyramid. Again, I wish you all well. COP does hire some wonderful people, many of them I gladly call my friends. If you takeaway nothing else from this post, know this, if you are laid off it is NOT the end of the world, and it may in fact be a springboard to something much better.

I guess one mans springboard is another man's career death spiral... Then again, all these people care about is new hires. Must be one of the chosen ones.
