I was laid off in March and my old boss still calls me asking me how to do things. I should charge him/her a consulting fee!! SOB

Please save the BS. We are told not to contact the folks who are laid off and keep them at a distance not informing them of the goings on at mattel. We are told to in essence treat them like pariahs.
The way I see it, once someone was part of the Mattel family, they are always a part of the family for me. The people who were laid off from my department are now vendors. We know they understand how things work so when there is freelance work, we give it to them. They may no longer be in the building with us, but they were and will always be good friends. I don't care if they have their own business or work for the competitor, I will still always be happy to hear from them and happy to hear they are doing well. They are still missed. There is a difference between the company Mattel and the actual people who work there, people who become friends after so many years.
Isn't that how it works? The cool kids get fired so that the lame kids don't have to feel inferior. Just their product is inferior now.
You seem to get a kick out of it and want to tell everyone on this site how cool you are.
Otherwise anyone with a little self respect would either keep it to themselves or not take your ex-boss' calls. But here you are looking for what? Sympathy?
You know the red phone symbol on your phone when it rings means "decline"
Stop complaining and let it go.
As long as you don't stop taking my calls.....
I get the occasional text that starts off with a "hey! how's it going?" followed by a business question and I always answer with a "lol" or send them a work order invoice for a consultation fee which they refuse to sign and I refuse to help. it's business not personal and I could care less whether Mattel sinks or swims as long as I get paid.
I doubt you are alone. It's like getting a booty call from someone who broke up with you - yuck.
You're a chump if you even return their call/text, much less help them. Let 'em burn.
You should tell him to sleep in the bed he made - he caused the issues, made the calls, now he has to deal with the consequences. When you make a decision, you have to be held accountable. And stop taking his phonecalls and texts - enough is enough.
Hopefully they were royally screwed by the information and feel like a tool for reaching out. Serves them right.
I'd tell 'em sure... send me a PRO form and make me an Independent Contractor. And you want $1000 per phone call
Number 1 - I would never go back. I have another job (more $ and closer to home)
Number 2 - HR knows he/she has contacted me. I have saved all text messages.
number 3 - yes I have answered but with wrong answers.
Are you kidding me? I thought it was sick to get phone calls for help from El Segundo when they moved all the NAD jobs there. But to get a call at home after they terminated you is really low. And you answer them? Know this: You are NOT getting your job back because you are being nice. Nor is it making them think they need you. Forget it! Screw them!
You shouldn't take the call and you should call HR and file a complaint that the person is contacting you which is a massive NO NO from HR's perspective.
