Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

Community Relations Specialist (West Coast)

Let me begin by wishing the best to all the people affected by the events of the last few days. More than anything, I feel for the students that are having their education delayed by this crisis. I'm a former CRS here in the West Coast, and someone with 1st hand knowledge of what really happens. While you can blame K Modany, or anyone else at HQ, please know that many people actually cared about these students.

Constantly, I would attend large events at Camp Pendleton, 29 Palms, Edwards. I would attend many Job Fairs, Community Festivals etc. I'd always tell people, "Look at you're options! Don't pick a school via a flyer, visit these schools! I don't care what school you go to, just get that degree!" Students appreciated me for my honesty! Which is why, soon I will be working at another school, while you cry babies from EDMC and Corinthians attack us on this board. We'll just keep hiding behind the keyboards little EDMC disciples, because I also worked for the Art Institutes. ITT TECH while it has it's issues, they never falsified a placement.

We always tried to do the best for the students. I can't say the same about AI, and their Boiler Room tactics, "Oh she is a Starbucks Barista? Count her as a Culinary placement." Either way, I just received my last pay check, you want a source, check my Bank Acct. Good luck to all the good people still at HQ and the campuses. And more important, good luck to the students, especially the Veterans.

On whistleblowers, this was posted on this site three years ago, a some posts are 4 years old too

Why ITT is Failing

My name is Michael Henderson; I attended ITT Tech in Knoxville, TN from 2008-2009 and was deployed from 2009-2010. Due to the large amount of debt I accrued from attending ITT tech have been barely making a living and have had my wages garnished due to not being able to pay the outrageous monthly amounts. I recently was able to settle $22,000 but still owe another $30,000 due to the way the loans are taken out by ITT Tech. I was deployed and unable to attend the last year of my classes and as soon as I got back state side my loans went into default and my family was harassed by collection agencies. I am not happy with the total amount of the loans (that seem to be much higher than what I signed for) and the way they are handled. They are taken out in such large unpayable amounts with high interest, that I would have to pay $2,000 a month to pay any of the individual loans off meanwhile others would go into default and the cycle never ends..... http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=ED-2014-OPE-0039-0018....

ACICS is next. ITT employees will now have tom to contact ED and complain about the shamwork of ACICS

And we all know what a stellar job ACICS has done....... They are about as credible as ITT at this point. Maybe both "bed partners" will face gov't shutdown due to their unethical practices which will result in the fleecing of taxpayers and many more students with unfinished degrees whom owe a huge debit.

ITT has to login to acics website and list each and every student they place with position title and company info. Acics verifies each and every one!

---That began in 2014, after many many complaints and findings (at many schools) see pg 46

What about all the years prior to this verification program?

http://www.acics.org/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=5506&libID=5506

Our campus seemed to only have solid placements, with a few very slightly questionable. But nothing outlandish at our campus (just based on the grapevine).

"For all the people who want to make statements regarding false placements, your in the dark.. "

Seriously? Do you not read the sources of real info posted here many times? Like the ACICS show-cause continuation letter sent Aug 17 to ITT and DOE that started this latest showdown?

The "new" ACICS is trying to be more rigorous. Which is why they say ITT-Tech is not compliant! Incorrect placement numbers is one of reasons for ACICS issuing a continuation of show cause!

Give it up!

"ITT Tech while it has its issues never falsified a placement."

Are you serious? I worked as a Program Chair and in that capacity had monthly meetings with Career Services. The Director would buy students business licenses and help them get business cards, then ask them to pick a number they wanted listed for their yearly income and place them as self employed. If a student got a degree in computer network systems and got a job in a kiosk selling cell phones, they were considered working in their field as the phones have "operating systems." This is precisely the corrupt practice that in part drove the company into the ground.

"if you cared, you should have called the government and blown the whistle"

I blew the whistle in 2012 (when the curriculum moved from hands on to more paper based assignments that would no longer give students the skills they needed to enter 50% of the available job market in my area, standardized gradebooks that were missing assignments as well as assignments with no ability to assign a grade in the standardized gradebook, additional workloads that went against ACICS recommendations and textbooks with incorrect information) and was terminated for my efforts.

This was after making my concerns known to the chain of command, Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, Director and then National Dean---with no response!

I could have kept my mouth shut I might still be employed there today. I could not in good conscious do that. Sometimes doing the right thing means you make things a little harder for yourself. I am sorry for all the good folks who kept their mouths shut, their heads down and continued to instruct, for the students who have an education that has not prepared them for the challenges of the job field, and everyone in between. I am NOT sorry to see the entity of ITT brought to task for what it has done, knowingly, and willingly, for treating student loans like another form of income, and delivering a low quality education at a high cost to non-traditional students. You reap what you sow.

"if you cared, you should have called the government and blown the whistle"

I think there has been plenty of whistle blowing. How else do you think we arrived at today?

"a few sour grapes"

The vast number did not grad (say 40 did out of 300 starts), the rest just got billed. Maybe half the grads got "great" jobs, the rest, low-pay almost non-degree types. So that's 20 out of 300

So there are actually many sour grapes & a few sweet ones.

My husband worked for ITT and he can give you name after name of his students that graduated and got good really paying jobs. He knows this because he maintains a relationship with most of his students via social media. While I know there are students who did not graduate orndid graduate but didn't get the best job - that is with every college and university so I am really sad to hear a few sour grapes make it sound like no one from ITT cared and no student from ITT has been successful! The successful graduates are off working and making money while the few sit on this site and complain! And btw if you take out a student loan and then drop out - newsflash you still have to pay the loan back! That is the way LOANS work!

Career services self verified their own placements at ITT. Conflict of interests. Fudge the numbers and you can keep your job.

You worked as a CRS at one ITT Tech campus and you think you can make such a statement? You forgot the words "In my humble opinion..."
