Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Girls Brands Down 50 Percent

The third quarter report sure glosses over this serious blunder, hiding it between Barbie up 16 pct and Hot Wheels up 6 pct. Must have been some tremendous losses there to end up flat overall. How many seamstresses will be laid off as a result? And what exactly are the exec's bonuses for this lackluster quarter? Whose fault is it, this headwindy mess we're in? Is it constant currency or constant idiocy from our overpriced, underskilled C-suiters? Who will fall down and who will fail upward? Place your bets before the 4th quarter rollercoaster departs the station.

For those ostriches in the company burying their heads in the sand, please understand the math and don't just take a carefully crafted report for it's face value:

1) When Chris says "we're broadly in line with expectations" it means we're off a lot but we can buy time and over-ship in the 4th quarter to hide how off our numbers and costs are

2) Disney Princess was worth $400M in revenue, but Monster High was worth twice as much - while everyone planned on Disney being absent, no one expected MH to take the nosedive it has - it's down to less than 25% of it's heyday and it no longer is a "core brand" - there is nothing the company can do to make up this much of a shortfall

3) HotWheels is up because of Star Wars - take out SW and it'll drop like a brick

4) Barbie is up because it's being over invested in by taking marketing dollars from all other core brands to artificially prop it up - make it carry it's own weight and the numbers are down - why? Because the crap with the various bodies was to placate liberal, obtrusive moms who are so shallow they allow a doll to define their daughters perception of themselves. Once and for all, Barbie looks the way she does to make the clothes easy to change, you idiots. Please get over your selves.

Better than expected from what, the bottom of the barrel? MattHell sales have been dismal but the cover up makes Hilary Clinton look like Mother Teresa.

If lay offs come I was right, if they don't, great, and I was hopefully wrong as I still have some talented friends there.

Few, but some.

Whoever is writing the 3Q results are a great accomplishment should remember they said that when they are laid off in the near future.

Yeah, but shares of MAT were higher in after-hours trading on Wednesday after better-than-expected revenue for the 2016 third quarter.

To the idiot who's saying it was a positive report, if you want to see/read a genuine, not made up shell game, blame it on forex & headwinds, GO READ THE HASBRO Q3 results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newsflash, Hasbro posts it's Q results BEFORE the bell, not AFTER as MattHell does to avoid further sell offs.

BTW, those puppet so called analysts asking the soft questions are insiders so no hard questions are asked. What a joke.

Fairly a big accomplishment? Deteriorating net income, terrible return on equity and feeble growth in the company's earnings per share. Keep pretending the writing is not on the wall. I'm doing my best to jump ship before it F***ing sinks.

Flat sales against a half-billion dollar Disney Princess hole is a fairly big accomplishment, despite what the trolls here would say.

The analyst are interested in the headlines about key brands...especially for 3Q...speaks to the holidays...obviously based on track record they are not geniuses...they eat much of what they are fed...if mgt is at the end of an LT bonus cycle, look out...I'd imagine they will do whatever they can get away with to make the #'s...

It's no secret that Disney Princess dollars are absent, so everyone is expecting a loss. This is a one-time "get out of jail free" opportunity to blame all losses on Disney, so sales and dollars are being juggled around to shore up other brands. Sort of robbing Cinderella to pay Barbie. It's a short term, unsustainable shell game, but by the time the investors figure it out, our execs will be bonus rich and long gone, along with any cash to pay a dividend. Mattel is temporarily cash-rich but our illustrious fail-upward management team is steadily draining the kitty.

How can FLAT results with the previous year, that was a disaster, be considered Positive?

Because last year there were Disney Princess dollars that are gone now.

How much do you think was overshipped to make the BRB numbers look they way they do? I guess we'll find out in Q4!
