Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

We're screwed

“I want to assure you that Bass Pro Shops understands and respects both the importance of our culture and our deep Nebraska roots.”

Translation: Money is money, so we're gonna tell you whatever we need to in order to prevent you from being distracted by the fact you're losing your job. We want you to leave, so we don't have to pay severance, but not yet. We need you to continue running the business till we can transfer your job, so we need to drag you along for a while. If you're well connected, we'll be talking to you soon about relocation. But if you're not, and you're smart, you're not buying that new car right now, you're getting your house ready to sell, and you're floating your resume.

Stuck with my house? So glad we rented! And not being from this hellhole makes it a little more nicer to come and go as we please. Or even wait for that severance package to just come through.

Our happy ending is leaving this town, but we have that luxury to see what the future may bring. So what's your excuse? :)

It's too late for your house. You're stuck with it. This is George Bailey's company town, except nobody is going make the happy ending this time. The corporate jobs will probably last another year at best until the computer systems are merged. Why do people assume there's going to be severance pay? Most folks will probably be happy if their unemployment benefits make the mortgage and they don't lose their house in winter. Seriously. Wake the hell up.
