If it were up to me we would have a nice forced bell curve. 10% 1 and 3, 20% 2+ and 2- and 40% 2. Lets use the full range to differentiate performance. I see way too many slackers getting a 2 and some complete basket cases with a 2-.

It's time the executives are subjected to forced rankings as just happened at Wells Fargo.

I know that FORCED ranking is evil, mean, and nasty. But, is consensual ranking any better? Would it be just as exciting?

As I always told you, almost all will be laid off within a couple of years, chevron won't exist in three years . As well as your pensions. Then, be ready

Go tell HR at Chevron that more than a few management types are misunderstanding Ranking sessions for "Yanking sessions".

Yes, there will be layoffs this year, probably at least in the hundreds for the US and thousands globally. Both the scared 'regular' employees and the smug/arrogant chevroids will be let go. Many other oil and service companies are still laying off employees, closing offices, selling assets and cancelling projects. Layoffs result in a more 'yes-man', group think and less knowledgeable/competent work environment and workforce. Human Energy, give me a break.

You are ranked against similar PSGs but that could spread over multi function ( engineer, geologist, finance, etc). For example, you could be a PSG 25 engineer and be ranked against the Finance Manager in your BU who is also PSG 25. The take away message is that you are not necessarily ranked against your team mates unless you are in the same PSG

It is used inconsistently throughout Chevron but will be enforced this year. The message it sends to supervisors is that you need to recruit low performers to be on your team so you have someone to give a 2-. I know personally of excellent employees who left the company because they were unfairly forced ranked. It is a terrible system and I would hope that Chevron would have been above using it. It will hurt us when the economy improves.

Forced ranking is like being bent over a barrel. When the management directive is to rank 5 or 10% of the entire lot of employees into the lower tier and by the usual grading standard there are only 2% that fall into that lower group, then you initiate a forced ranking to ensure you end up with more employees to make the quota. Total unfairness.

What is forced ranking?

Yes Indeed. Plenty of deadwood at SJV and also GOMBU that needs to be cut, as far as that's concerned.

GOM has been using forces rankings for years. Folks like SJV need to finally get with the program. Plenty deadwood over there

But, but...Chevron is perfect. Just look at the posts on this board. Its perfect. No workplace fatalities (some have ridiculed those facts on this board - nooo, Chevron has never killed anyone) perfect project execution such as Gorgon, Bigfoot and AMBU etc. Perfect none-deadwood employees....its perfect. This can't be the Chevron you are talking about. Noooooo... They would never do anything as stupid, unprofessional and idiotic as that.

I'm afraid there will be layoffs coming. One can only hope they don't layoff too many this time. The announcement this week that CVX will be selling of the Bangladeshi assets is the proof. We are still hurting for cash and the dividend yield is still too high for our current cash flow.

The infamous news was shared in SJV that a 5% forced ranking (-2,3) needs to be in place for 2016-2017 PD. Get ready for next RAE or reductions.
