Because the execs don't trust any of you and believe in your ideas. The execs need to bring in the 'expert' consultants to assist in strategery (why should the execs do it, it's not like the responsibility is included in their exec job descriptions). The 'experts' will be commissioned to interview all of you and then regurgitate your ideas in consultant speak within 100 PowerPoint slides (which means your ideas are now theirs). The execs will be wowed with the 'expert' presentation, which will further validate their decision to bring in the consultants. Of course the 'experts' then leave their bag of consultant speak strategery for all of you to make sense of and implement with some exec sponsor who doesn't know how to 'exec'ute.
Anyone in management in this charade should report to a used car lot after this dump closes as it's where your skill set would be served.
