Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Wouldn't closing K-mart help Sears?

I walked into a K-Mart not too long ago. Wanting to use my associate discount being a Sears associate.

I needed a calendar.

I haven't been in a K-mart in a while but remembered the K-mart from my childhood.

It was a decent store. Clean. Well stocked. There wasn't associates. All over the place but it wasn't necessary. You found what you needed, put it in your cart and checked out at the front.

When I pulled up at the K-mart to look for a calendar, there was a homeless person, cart and all asleep right at the front door. Nice impression.

I walk in and it looks worse than a Dollar General. And they are a horrible place to shop.

Bulk stacks every where. EVERYWHERE. And the Kenmore name on a LOT of those bulk stacks.

When I think Kenmore I think Sears. Not K-Mart.

Now I'm thinking homeless. Kenmore. It's stuck in my brain. All this crap in bulk stacks on the floor.

And of course they didn't have my calendar.

And when the list came down to close stores that one was saved.

That one was profitable? You have got to be kidding me.

Something is seriously wrong with this company that would save a dirty filthy store like that one.

What is wrong with you corporate?

Duly noted. We will take this up at the next board meeting when we decide to cut cost again. Great suggestion, we will make a metric out of this

If Eddie finds out you can afford an $800 phone he will cut your commission or hours. They can't have employees making a living wage and having nice things. If they did that, then corporate would not feel superior to us or have anything to look down on us about

Just goes to show you how pathetic the company is. They cant even spring for calendars for the people who are trying to make them money.

I wasn't buying a wall calendar. Funny how people picture things.

And yes, I can afford an $800 phone working for Sears.

I am on commission. I don't make minimum wage.

We make a lot more than cashiers or leads or store managers.

So getting back to the calendar. Why Not Lease it asks specific questions and people need to SEE dates. Like when they are getting paid next.

I'm not going to pull a WALL CALENDAR out of my pocket. Or my (yes) $800 phone. I'm going to pull a pocket calendar out and say when is the exact date of your next pay check. And the next one after that.

And I needed a calendar....and I went to K-Mart.

And that K-Mart was disgusting.

Do I have to go thru this again?

Just because I may need something paper related doesn't mean I am behind the times.

Am I on the correct site to ask questions about the affordable healthcare exchange? I tried calling the number but I just keep getting hung up on.

"Using an actual calendar is exactly why SHC is going down."

I should post this on pebble hahahahah. Also, the amount of logic acrobatics you had to pull off to try to prove that point is absolutely amazing I'm impressed, really. The use of a calendar is nowhere near using a typewriter or rotary phone with respect to "staying in the past". I'm a 20 year old engineering student and even I still use a pocket calendar. I guess since I use a calendar I should go buy an abacus and a hourglass instead of using a calculator and a stopwatch.

Sears is a crappy company and it is technically stuck in the past. BUT that was caused by laziness and because our leaders obviously have alternative motives...rather than their nostalgia and love for paper calendars.

Don't get me wrong, there was a few backflips in the original post too (like correlating "homeless" with "kenmore" just because you saw a homeless person) but the fact that multiple people commented about the fact that you were buying a calendar was kinda funny.

ALSO if that "this is why Sears is closing" comment was a joke that went over my head, sorry. It really did make me laugh though.

Using an actual calendar is exactly why SHC is going down. The mind set is to stay in the past and not look to the future. You just keep using your old wall calendar and your rotary dial phone with your T.V. with rabbit ears. And while your at it why dont you write a letter in shorthand or type in on your old typewriter. This is the attitude that got this company where it is today. Stay in the past to appease the old and ignore the new until you are so far in a hole you can't get out.

You did say "not long ago" that would imply recently, not almost a year ago. Words people, they mean something.

Just goes to show you that no one shops at Sears or Kmart for anything except cheap stuff like calendars. Might as well change the whole company to a Dollar Store.

And someone like you would say use your phone who would buy a calendar in the summer. People in school. In college.

Actually lots of people. That is why they sell September thru next year calendars. Your phone is not your life.

I guess you are a cashier. I hope you want more out of life. Please go to college.

I use my phone a LOT. but not on leases. And THAT IS WHY I NEEDED A CALEDAR!

I didn't want to grab my phone and it wasn't it the summer. It was last November if you must know.

I pull things out of my pocket. And I write things down. And I don't write things down on my phone.

I needed a pocket calender since we have to push things like why not lease it. I'm not going to pull out my $800 phone when someone is having to lease something.

It is insulting. Thinking about it.

That's beside the point. The point was that the OP went into a Kmart as a customer (and as an employee of the company) and noticed the downward spiral and the lack of pride in these stores. It wouldn't have made a difference whether he or she went in for a calendar, or heck, anything between a penny nail to a $1000 shopping spree in clothes.

Kmart and Sears have no valid defense, no sense in trying to deflect the issues at hand.
